I've only owned one kite - which I bought brand new late November last year. I've been kiting quite consistently averaging 2-3 sessions a week for about 2 hours each time (about 80hours of flight).

I'd like to know if my steering lines/pigtails are getting close to needing replacement? (Refer below images). From discussing with a couple of other kiters on the beach, the general consensus is they are fine, but really, how do you know when they're 100% up for replacement? And how much longer can I expect them to last?

I really want to avoid breaking a line during a session, or when I'm launching/landing, so a bit of peace of mind would be great!

i have used spectra / dyneema lines for over 15 years on racing dingies and there is nothing wrong with those lines, so i wouldn't worry about that. discoloration is very common from UV light. those lines will last much much much longer.

it you are uncertain of it, tie it to a tree or a post and pull as hard as you can, the tree or post is likely to move before the line breaks.

Its mainly the centre line pigtails your gonna want to look at, they take all of the pull the steering lines don’t so much
