Just recently saw this picture, but it's kind same thing for all photos like this

Are this boards really so huge or this is photo/marketing trick?
If they ride with full quiver kites in almost perfect conditions would't be easier for them to use smaller boards?
Does boots here play it's role, is it easier to pop & land with so massive boards? Probably yes for landing, but complicated freestyle moves looks like much harder with big boards.

Cheers everyone

Or there all short. By the way nothing wrong with riding big boards.

I don't know the answer because i don't do wake.

So i'm blatantly going to guess and see how close i am when someone who knows answers.

Wake boards usually have high rocker which makes them power hungry compared to the similar sized board. So... They upsize the board size to counteract the inefficiency of the rocker.

I run a bigger board when I'm on the tour for three reasons.

1. More pop for bigger boosts. Although I mainly ride unhooked.

2. Better up wind performance.

3. More surface area for my sponsers stickers when I'm on the box at the end of the day.

you are all such kooks hahahaha

okay so 1. those boards have huge rocker. so if your a 136 standard board with normalish rocker on a high rocker board you need a 140 so a 133 normal board would require you to use a 136. this is due to the back rail not being able to be in the water as much and the contours in the base add a fair bit of drag in the water.

2. it lowers your center of gravity allowing you to make easier and faster rotations.

3. how is this not common knowledge? your instructor should have taught you guys this on your second lesson when introduced to the board. the whole shape size design speech......

4.... plummet for gods sake you make boards you should know better... but you got some of it right :D

also 3rd place needs to be dropped from redbull for putting her sticker on the bottom of the board and upside down hahahaha

Just a minute. Didn't I say bigger size to counteract the rocker?....
I wasn't wrong....

Surely you're taking the piss? How does a bigger board lower your CoG? And a bigger board will slow your rotations not speed you up.

I ride 141. Gives you more pop. Having boots gives your more control, so you can handle a bigger board.
Bigger boards slow your rotation but you rotate more, of that makes sense!

do yourself a favour and have a quick google to see how helicopter blades work. in particular how theres leading and trailing blade if you can get your head around that youll understand why when you rotate your board it is slow to start but fast to finish or you know wind some rubber bands around center of a pencil and observe it untwisting then add some weight to the pencil if you want.

I'm thinking it's all about the sponsors.

change it to "why does anyone ride small boards?"

ive not seen any benefit riding smaller boards, have gone progressively longer (now on 142) as with anything, try a few different things, depends to some extent on riding style

^^^ Yep it's cause they're chicks. I ride a 141 x 42.5 with boots at 85kgs. If I was riding straps I would ride 138 x 42. If you were 75kgs that would be slightly lower and so on and so forth.Bigger board = more pop (more surface area to load with), better landing surface, and slower more controlled rotations.

Another call could be that bigger board = more upwind = more room for bigger tricks

In surfing there is a thing called the Kelly Slater syndrome.
Most people want to surf like KS so they look at what KS rides
and get that but most people his size can't even paddle his boards &
in reality require a much bigger board.

In kitesurfing even our best local riders are still beginners compared to the pro's in the videos and on the podiums.
This is in regard to tricks, kite control and even down to edging and weight distribution.

Just be real and get a much bigger board than you think and you will have much more time for everything you lay down
