Been kitesurfing now for only a year so consider myself still "beginner" status. My dilema is my 12 year old has shown serious interest in learning how to. He has had significant time on trainer kite and several kite sessions (body dragging) on my 10m lithium, with me hooked in.

Thing is would like to get him his own kite but not sure which size. Was thinking 6m DNA or similar. He is 43kg.

Will be getting him lessons next month.

I think its great for the younger generation to get involved here, and what better rush than to be kitesurfing with your son!!!

Any advice on kite size would be appreciated. Winds will be up to 20kts only.

Suggest doing google on SEABREEZE re-topic has come up a fair bit one way and another here are some previous posts as food for thought...

Not sure on budget but 6M = good starter size likely out grow fairly quickly in sub 20Knots...

I part purchased my Daughter's 8m Catalyst as my hi(gher) wind kite
She is 14 50-ish Kg - board is a 131 M8 hand-me down. She started on a 6M Session but would not recommend - probably not sold anymore - I like simple bridal kite & would suggest looking at OZONE...

I have a ball on my Lithium - but realistically once U buy your 2nd+ kite U R targeting a particular feel and style so horses 4 courses....

Not tried EPIC but owner designed with his son in mind.

I really enjoy d/winders with my son (hopefully daughter soon too)

As I mentioned in 1 of the links - safety first
Hope U have a blast - DNF the slurpees after a session - doesn't count otherwise

Cheers
