Hey guys,

i'm gonna get lessons soon and just thinking about the gear I could get.

I'm thinking about a Naish 2010 Cult or 2010 Charger. My weight is around 110-115kg - lost a lot since im in Australia and didn't had the chance to weight me somewhere :)

So the big question is what for a size should I get? I only want 1 kite for everything - so a good windrange is the biggest factor i reckon.

Oh jeah and i'm here in WA - perth.

cheers

Hi vintervargen,

Welcome to the sport! The average 85 kilo rider will ride a 10m in Perth for most conditions. You add 1sqm for every 10 kg of bodyweight, (roughly) It's a formula I seem to have some success with.

With your body weight of ~110-115kg, that means you should be looking for something around the 12-13m range.

Something you need to consider is that some kites are much more powerful than others, for instance, the difference in power between say an Ozone Catalyst 12m and a Core GT 12m is quite substantial.

I'd be looking for a powerful 12m, it'll just be more fun. CHeck out the North Rebels, or Fuse, Core GT or GTS, also Airush Lithium/DNA.

We have most of these kites available, some in 2nd hand, some superceded and some new.

Hope this helps,

DM

The ideal windrange for you to get out in for learning would be 16-24kts, so AKS is spot, with the kite size recommendations. once you master the sport you should be able to push the top and bottom end to get more range, 110kg+ 12-13m. This size kite should work well with a 135-138 TT.

If you have lost a lot of weight and are 90-10kgs a 10-11m would be ideal with a board 132-135cm.

if your goal is ridding a surfboard you would be better of with a kite around 10m.

once you get some lessons it will be easier to decide what to get. So hang out for a bit, but do some research look at what others are using in your local area and what the local shops carry as you will get better backup and help if needed. Read some gear reviews, get on manufactures websites and you should end up with the right gear for you.

thanks for your responses guys.

I gonna get lessons asap the weather conditions get better.
I think I'm gonna be good with a 12m kite for this season and i'll see what happens after that.

and for the board found a 2nd hand custom 144. I think for the beginning it will be good and when my riding skillz get better gonna trade it in against something smaller.

thx again guys

Looks like your on the right track, keep the 144 for a light wind board once you have outgrown it then you should probably get ridding in 14kts.
