I have had to do a few rescues this winter ( lots of newbies at my beach) mostly they just need help getting back to their board. So i often lend a hand and bring the board to them (or at least a lot closer so they can get to it)

i am an experienced kiter, hove no troubles riding one handed. but i have had no success water starting one handed. and usually end up body dragging their board to them.

How do i get started carrying an extra board?

If your using one hand for a water start try using your back hand so you can easily bring your kite back up once you have initiated the power stroke

Not many liked the technique I sometimes use, but others have covered other suggestions here: www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Kitesurfing/General/board-rescue/

I have a Core short leash now so I can't use it to tow bigger boards in, I went with another suggestion in the above thread, carry my own board in and ride the other.

hi chris thanks for the link. good points in there.

have had my face reconstructed once already because of a board leash, don't need to go there again.

have tired starting with the board across my chest and my knees. was not very successful. i think its because i am normally riding a surfboard. the extra float makes it tricky to get your feet up on the board while balancing another board.

JayP, some options for board and rescuing others are here: kitesurfing-handbook.peterskiteboarding.com/progression/rescuing-others

Any sort of leash attachment to a board is risky, so carrying the board is better. Having said that, Ivan dislocated a finger reaching down to pick up a board while kiting along, so all methods have their risks.

thanks peter

good info on your site. I think i need to stay squatted for a while longer while doing the power stroke with the board at my knees. I am standing up to quickly.... might try a few extended rides squatted see how that feels before trying it with a second board.

A bit funny me making suggestions to you given you have taught me most of what I know - but, I find the way that works best for me is to put the board on top of my arms for at least the start. ie sit it across the top of your arms with an edge under your chin. Both hands are then on the bar.

Works a treat for me and once up and going you can do what you want with one hand.

Generally is easy enough (although a little awkward) to keep it there once going but often once you start driving upwind with it you may need to hold it to stop it flipping up into your face.

EDIT: It has to be straps down too or it is too difficult to grab the board once you are up and let go of the bar.
