Hello guys,

I am fairly new in the sport. I have a Waroo 2008 11m and a Naish Haze 142cm. I am 70Kg. I find my board a bit to big for me when there is between 16-20 knots. Taking to much speed. I am moving to Brasil this September and plan to get a 2nd kite 9.5m. What size of board should I get ? 135cm ? 130 cm? Would 135 cm be to close to 142 cm ? Is there a lot of difference in feel / handling between 130 and 135 cm ?

Thanks

Sorry to say it's not the board size that's the problem. You need to work on your technique. I ride a Shinn Wave (mutant) board 148 x 44 in all winds and I'm 65 kgs.

Try flying your kite lower to the water and work on your edging. Turn your shoulders and hips to where you want to go and apply more heel presure.

If your board's too flat on the water you'll belt off down wind and gain too much speed.

An experienced 70kg rider i'd be suggesting a 130x40-42... not that i'd be telling an experienced rider what board he/she should be using.

Kit33r is right. The board isn't the cause of the problems, but it might be making it difficult to progress and learn to control the power. If you've got the money then buying a board the size you'll end up wanting to ride isn't a bad idea, but don't expect it to instantly solve your issues.
Sounds to me like you need to improve your board skills and learn to hold down more power and edge harder.

You're welcome. Any time you need a good dressing down just jump on Seabreeze.

Sounds good. A board with wide tips will plain early and make starting simpler.

Depends on the board the haze hasent got a lot of tip volume so if your having trouble with that i would definately look at going to a 130x40 i have been riding one for years and have just gone to the new cardboards Fr 131x41 its an awesome board and i use it in anything from 13-40+ it rails like its on tracks and never lets go ,i would have to say its also the best tt toeside board i have ever ridden,IMO a 135 is way big for your weight .
