Hi I started kiting on a bws noise classic and yes they are roughly 2 sizes bigger than what it says on the side. This applies to the original noise which is the 5 strut kite if you are looking at a noise pro which is the 3 strut kite then they are true to size (but still quite a grunty kite).

I am 105kgs and had the original noise in 8m (just under 10m really) and 12m (really more like a 14) these are great kites to learn on and especially for the bigger guy as they have a lot of grunt and static pull which will get you going and keep you going in the flat spots and learning transitions. The 12m noise classic is a big kite it is like a big tractor that will pull you around and get the job done but being quite a slow kite it can hold you back a bit when learning jumps and other tricks (still very do able but much better on a faster kite). If you are just going to get 1 kite I would suggest that you go the size down as this is a bit too big for a 1 kite quiver but if you were going to get 2 kites this would be ok as you would have more low end from this big kite.

Im in WA and not too familiar with the wind in melbourne

my wind ranges with the 8m and 12m noise classics on my 139x42 twin tip were roughly 15 to 22 for the 12 and 20 to 30 for the 8 (give or take a little for each)

The BWS Noise would be a perfect kite as a beginner. They are very stable and will remain a great kite for the surf as you progress.

As far as size goes you could easy use it in 12-18 knots no problem/ If it came away strongger you would be able to depower it and get back safely. - although Im across the border so get some info from Vic guys about most suitable size for your area. In my area (Sth Coast NSW) a 12 is a perfect size first kite for someone your size.

My first kite was a BWS Noise Classic 12m. It's a great kite to learn on, not too expensive either.
It is very slow turning but as others say does pack some grunt. I'd say it's more like 1 size bigger, not 2.

What is not as good is the bar, the undertow bar with the depower is very tough to operate. I have therefore started using a different bar on this kite and am more happy with it now.
As has already been said, these kites are great for the surf, so once you transition to that, you will get a lot of joy out of this kite for a long time to come.

I'm 95kg and have been kiteboarding on BWS Noise 12 and 10 for three seasons. The 12 gets me going in 18knts - 25knts and the 10 between 23knts - 28knts. My board is 142x42.

I have now tuned my BWS noise and it's turning really well again, so ignore that comment in my previous post. The kite wasn't tuned correctly.
BWS are amazing kites, relaunch very easily which is good for beginners. It's forgiving, pulls like a truck and overall a very solid kite. Although it's a wave kite, it performs in other areas too.

Good choice in kite, should go a 14m though. I'm 100kgs and can hold my 14 up to 25kts.
