Hey guys,
Im planning to get a new quiver on my return to my home country.
The wind conditions there are,
30% <5kts,
30% 5-10kts,
25% 10-15kts,
10% 15-20kts,
5% >20kts.
Tropical climate.
Right now im riding 12m bolt and 8m park in tassie.
got 70kg, with a 135 tt. possibly will look at getting a surfboard.

Im changing to Ozone because of the zephyr. My plan is to get the new zephyr and either 11m 2011 C4 or 10m 2012 C4.
The zephyr is set. But im not sure about the C4.
Im into freestyle and freeride. possibly wave.
im a beginner-intermediate kiter.

What'd you reckon on the windrange gap on the zephyr and C4? should i consider some other size? smaller maybe?

I have taken my 2011 Zephyr out in 18knots, so you can probably manage on a 10m or even less for your next size down.

yea, ive been reading that the zephyr has good high end. Are you able to control the power of the kite with just by sheeting at 18 kts? How is the turning? I was thinking if I get the 11m, i can use a smaller size faster in the range. But considering minor improvements, the 10m 2012 and 11m 2011 should have the same windrange. prolly better high end on the 10m. What bar size do you use on your zephyr? Do you think I can use the C4 bar on the zephyr? Would be cheaper

I have been using the smaller bar from my 8m Catalyst and 11m C4 (2011) with the Zephyr. Steering seems fine, especially when using normal length lines. Controlling such a big kite in higher winds is actually easier than I thought it would be. It's just so well behaved, handles gusts really nicely.
I was mainly able to control the speed just by edging a little harder, and I wasn't even on full depower. Not sure how the 2013 C4 bar would go with the larger kite, as I think you would want that extra bit of throw just in case.

As for turning the Zephyr, I haven't really felt the need to turn it very fast.
You don't need to really do much with it, you just have to adapt to it's style with your jumping and transitions. It just sits in the sky and doesn't move, and you can do what ever you want underneath it, wipeout, and it will still be sitting where you left it.

zarb, have you tried getting the kite up and possibly getting on the tt board in ultimate low wind? from your experience, whats the minimum wind for it to get up? and for you to start riding upwind?

I have the 2011, and by all accounts the newer versions are much better so keep that in mind.

I only really like taking it out in about 12+ knots at the moment, but that might just be because I have not perfected my light wind riding technique.
At 12 knots I will be comfortably going upwind, doing some jumps and back rolls, and it's heaps of fun. I can definitely get the kite up in the air from about 8 knots, but it's not a whole lot of fun, and never guaranteed to stay upwind.

I live in sub tropics broome and I have a 2011 Zephyr and a 2013 12m cat slittle over lap. Could have gone a 10 cat cos sometimes I can get a little over powered on the 12 but at the same time it can be fun too, big airs and hang time in saying that the cat is a pretty stable kite
Hope this help with the kite sizes
