Hi guys

Bit of info on me
I am a beginner about to get my first kit, I will do most of my riding in cairns but I weigh about 120 kegs ( on the way down) was recommended a 12 m switchblade 2012 but I'm not sure this is big enough

Regards
Kris

Yeah, go a 14. A mate of mine has just started and weighs 105 and flys a 12m Crossbow which is more of a light wind kite than the switchy, and he often strugles for power. Particularly when learning, it's good to not have to work the kite but just park it and concentrate on progressing and carving upwind. If you find yourself a bit lighter down the track, then a 10 or 11 for stronger winds would be good.

go a 14, 15 or even 16m.
Make sure you get the biggest twintip you can find too!
You need more power when your learning to ride.
you might want an electric pump for a kite that big too!

Thanks guys much appreciated, that sounds more believable

So do you think say a 14 and a 10 would cover most wind conditions?

Once you're experienced, for your weight on the 10m I would expect you could go up to 30 knts, perhaps more. I have a 12 for under 14, a 10 for 14-25 and an 8 for 25-35 and weigh 83kg. The 14 would get you up and going in around 13+. Like I said, once experienced and you know your limits.
A 3 metre gap is usually reccomended between kites, so maybe an 11 would suit as your high wind kite, unless you lost 10kg in a hurry.

A mate of mine took up kiting weighing around 120 kg. He lost 20 kg over summer! I asked him how he did it. He said it was simple. After taking up the kite he spends all his spare time on the water and doesn't have time to eat. And when he goes home he's too tired to eat.

Geez, I'm thirsty when I get home, so all that beer makes for no weight loss
