Hey,
Gotta start apologising for possibly (most likely) being repetitive. I'm looking for some guidance, just had my first kiting summer season and I am hooked. So I would like to keep it going through winter. Wondering what size kite would best fit someone like myself. I'm 85kg and I flew a LQ Envy 12 throughout summer at Kirra -QLD on onshore winds that ranged from 18 to 24 knots. On a twin tip (140x42), the aim was always to move away from the twin tip and get onto riding my surfboards. I am based in Coolangatta-QLD and I will only kite in the surf, as the nearest flat water is about 30-45min away and time is a scarce resource in my life. Any advice is welcomed re. kite sizes, brand, etc.
Cheers

If your going to keep your 12m Envy, maybe get a 9 or 10m LF Wow at least that way your control bars will be compatible.

But I think any 9-10m surf kite would do.

Hi Paper, Unfortunately on a forum you probably won't get many unbiased opinions. Even when you do they will often be misguided or wrong.
Ask 10 people and you will get 20 different answers, it's just the nature of the beast. Best bet is if you can already kite maybe demo some gear or at least take a look around at what's available and what has the features you want and work at forming your own opinion from there.

I'm not saying that everybody will lie to you, just that most kiters and stores will give advice based only on their experience and this advice might not be relevant to you.

If you are moving to a directional board though you will want to drop at least 3-4m in your kite size

9m neo would suit if you just want one kite
I have a 10 and a 7 and can get up and about between 13-30 knots, doesn't often get over 30 here in SEQ
i rode a variety of slingshot kites for 7 years, bought the Neos 18 months ago, they work great with a Twinnie as well

I started with North. I've tried a few other brands and have gone back to north. I now have a Neo, Dice, and an Evo.
For Waves - Dice is my favourite. It has more pull than you'd think. I'm 87kgs and can ride my 9m north from 18 -28 kts

Check out the Core Free. It's a Free ride and surf kite, something you should definitely consider. 9-10m would be perfect in the surf with your weight.
