Hey FP, yep, I agree, it's a slow time of year on the forum... but it's a slow time of year for learning to kite, at least it is in Victoria! Where are you based?

How is the learner kite going? Is it two lines or more?

Depending on the size of the kite, you can practice doing 'water starts' on the land. I.e. fly the kite, sit down on the sand, and practice diving the kite (from 2pm down through the wind window), and as it dives, you can use the power of the kite to stand up.

Note that I personally find trainer kites much harder than 'big boy's kites' as there is no way to control the power and they're very, very agile. If you can do a figure of 8 and a 'water start' as above, you're well on your way.

Where are you based?

If you've got spare time, buy Progression Kiteboarding - Beginner (or you can download an app on your iphone/pad). Different sections will mean more to you as you go through the learning curve...

Thanks FP, ... I guess like you, if I don't have a kite in my hand, I'm thinking of the next session.

Enjoy the progression, and stick with it. Once you've mastered the waterstart, the rest of the progressions come along pretty quickly.

Yeah, winter sucks. Gusty wind, short days, and my missus refuses to wear her bikini around the place. 2 more months...

PS @salty... dude, do you have a job? S^*t you're on here a lot.

I was under the impression that the more posts next to my name, the better my skill level... Hasn't really worked out that way.
