Most kite manufacturers have on their web sites a table of rider weight vs kite wind range. Do some research.

Yeh ok , i see plenty of little graphs on the kite sites but is there a "general purpose" meterage size for my weight range?

If you look at some manufacturers websites they tell you wind range for a standard 80 kg rider. I would say 75 is close enough to standard. I'm a noon too but from what I can tell a 12m for 80kg will be good for 15-25 knots.

I started around with 110+ this season and I have as a main kite 12m from 15-25 (with max gusts to 30) and thats top end I can go out atm. After that the kites pulls way too much although i like to ride powered.

as far as i can tell 75kg is good with a 8/9? for 15-25 maybe more if you figured it all out and are comfortable on the board.

With all the different kites out there claiming different sizes... this rule is going out the window rather quickly, but anyway. Some kites have better bottom or top end. A rider with decent experience is going to fairly easily achieve these results, but an inexperienced rider should add 1 or 2 knots to the bottom end and subtract 3-4 off the top end. Also, these are the usable ranges based on what i've flown over the years. I have ridden a 12m in 28kn gusting to 34kn but it wasn't pleasant nor sensible... so i've left that out of my 'recommended range'.

80kg on a medium rocker ~134x41 twin tip
8m @ 20-37kn (ideal 28kn)
10m @ 18-32kn (ideal 23kn)
12m @ 15-26kn (ideal 18kn)
14m @ 13-24kn (ideal 16kn)

+/-10kg = +/-1m to those ranges.

From my experience it also depends entirely on where in Australia or the world you are. Colder southerly regions have denser air and therefore can get away with slightly smaller kites or weaker winds. Far North Queensland generally needs an extra 1-2kn to get the same power as i would get in Victoria.

Sounds pretty sensible to me! Does the riders weight have anything to do with the size of the board? Or does that have more to do with their size? (like snowboarding)
