Ive seen plenty of video's of people walking up the beach and there kite just stays at 12 o'clock without a hand on the bar.

Today im at yaroomba beach and see two guys set up. The first self launches, kite to 12. He then lets go of the bar, runs up the beach 20 meters and grabs his board. The thing is his kite just sits up there at 12 happy as larry???

So how come as soon as i take my eye off my kits it dives down to either side of the window?? especially if I've just crashed and im trying to get back on my board, that kite is zooming everywhere but 12!!!!! I've tried sitting my kite at 12 and letting go to see what happens and the one thing it doesnt do is sit there???

Is it the style of kite? the trimming or what?

Ive only ever had a North Rebel or F1 Bandits?? Also I always fly my 11m and very rarely use my 8m. Is it a size thing as these were only 9's i believe and one was an ozone???

I could be wrong , but I think it's to do with the set up of the sheet out stopper on the bar , some people ( dangerously in my opinion) lower the stopper so that the bar doesn't completely sheet out , keeping it ( the kite) in the air when they stack etc , Cabrinah kites won't do this as I don't think it's adjustable , but other kites can be adjusted. your kite dropping when your sheeted out is correctly working as far as safety is concerned
I personally run up the beach with kite at 10 o'clock and sheeted in a little , this way if a gust hits I can sheet out some to absorb the gust , also having the kite at 12 is the most dangerous spot as it leaves you prone to be lifted off the ground ( lofted) I'm only one year in so this is just my experience and may be contradicted by others ( watch this space)

I have an older cab switchy 12m and used to have the same issue..I checked the lines ( same length when full depower) they were slightly diff lengths.Adjusted this and now it sits there for about 10 secs before floating to one side. ( wind pending )

It's possible that your front lines stretched , effectively reducing your depower I guess , which may cause the kite to stay up

What.

You must have the zen. Focus Luke! Focus on the force.

Actually it's your lines. If you are sure the wind is steady, clean, non-gusty and consistent, then all kites should behave that way. Tune and re-tune your lines. I do it once a week and sleep with a smile knowing when the weekend comes, it will fly perfectly.

if you;'re nicely powered sometimes they just do. Had it happen on a few different makes of kite. Doesn't mean it'll sit there all day though

take your hands off it! (your bar)
the kite only moves through the window due to your input

it is the guy flying it not the kite and it is a skill that has to be learnt....

Note for beginners - over time (sooner rather than later), you will not need to control the kite conciously. It will come naturally. And of course confidence will come with it hence why you can let go of the bar and know instinctively where the kite is at. Just don't think you can do that until you know and only you will know over time.

If the kite was a Peter Lynn Arc ..that is what they do without any input. They will auto zenith...and stay there all day.

I may be wrong but it sounds to me that you may have your lines set with too much depower. You could try either shortening your back lines or lengthening your fronts & see if that helps.
Bandits are great kites, I'm sure it's a line tuning problem or you have not quite got the feel of what's happening to your kite without looking yet

All lines will stretch and not equally, tune your lines so their all exactly same length , also if your kite has had repairs or stretched and not exactly same on both sides this will play on on stability

I tuned my lines this morning before a session. Been meaning to do it for ages. The kite was more stable and even sat at 12 without touching the bar....for a while. It's never done that before. Tuned lines made the session awesome.
