having a hard time getting started when kiteboarding with a skim board in 2 to 6 inches- keep getting stuck in the mud or falling backwards when diving the kite .once I get started no problem and get upwind easily but there has got to be a simple way to get started with out boosting and jumping on the board which can end up ugly thanks. oldman4

Practice, and then more practice ....... Nothing special about it except doing it until you find the right amount kite, power etc to both lift you onto the board without burying the board.

It's the same as starting on anything without straps.....

U just step onto the board as you pass the kite through the zenith,,,,the kite takes the weight, not the board.

For a more stylish take off u can boost off the beach with board in hand

I like the idea of putting weight on the skim board when passing the kite thru the top of the window .sometimes I use my regular board with out the fins because I have better control with the straps.is there a technique where you can have your feet in the straps and then get the board moving in a slow controlled fashion .I have tried standing in the saps with the kite over head flying it back and forth trying to get the board to break loose while leaning back but it either buries the front edge or I fall back.iam I on the right path with that thinking or is there another slow controlled method- thanks oldman

Yep, this works. Just head down wind to get planning. Fly the kite high so not too much weight on the board.

Everything been said here so I concur.

On a side note: I'm surprised that kite skims are not more popular. I find them huge fun and a real asset in my kitesurfing. Highly recommended.
