Hi all I'm new to the sport and looking at kites. I've had lessons and was looking at a windgator Hybrid sle. Are they any good? Thanks.

going to go with the obvious reply and say.. u get what u pay for in terms of kites even more so with most sport items for obvious reason . With this said, now consider that kitesurfing is a very dangerous and demanding sport and your ability and safety relies HEAVILY on the gear you choose to use. I'm not going to lie and say I know much about these kites but just a quick search on google threw up a lot of red flags for me enough to warn off a beginner that probably knows a lot less than i.

Edit: literally felt like my computer was going to get a virus I had to dig so deep to get info about these kites lol just so many other more solid options when it comes to a beginner kite purchase.

this website has many local kites from all the reputable brands (ozone, north, cabrinha, airrush, best.. the list goes on) for sale in its buy/sell section. I recommend browsing some in your state, taking note of the brand name then visiting its website to discover its range of kites and which best fits your needs. Generally find something no older than 5 years and possibly buy from a dealer (they also advertise in this section) if you have completely no idea what you are looking for as far as quality goes as they are less likely to rip you off with a 2nd hand lemon.

and yes I'm sorry you are at least going to have to spend about $900+ for a complete set up even second hand ($500+ for the kite)($200+ for a board) and I suggest buying a new harness possibly clearance item from a dealer ($120+) as it is maybe the most important safety item and needs to fit properly. spending anything less without knowing exactly what u are looking for and looking at then you are likely buy a piece of trash that could kill you or somebody else.

Have a look at kiteaddictions website.
prices are good and been happy buying from them in the last 7 years.
They should be able to pick a a kite suitable for your needs.
I found them very easy to deal with.
Hope this helps.

just go to whichever kite shop is closest to your house
spend ages talking to the guys there and then get the best deal out of them you possibly can

supporting local shops is more than good for the sport when you're a beginner
it gives you someone you can talk to face to face that knows all your local kite spots
your gear will be safe and if you're not sure about anything they'll check it for you
and unlike all the opinions you'll get on the forums, kite shops offer actual facts
all invaluable things when you're first learning
