have snapped one of the leading edge lines on my kite need to do a quick repair before having a professional complete an overhaul, how do I know the correct length as the chicken loop line is really loose now so I think it is too long.

If you've snapped a line through general wear I'd recommend replacing all of them. It's the start of the season and having new lines aids confidence.
If they're still less than 8 months old replace the 2 front ones. Don't try to join a broken line with a knot, it'll only break again at the knot. Remember they are under a LOT of load.

^^^ +1 At minimum replace both front lines.
Sounds like you've not tuned a bar before so best dropping into your local shop to see how it's done.

^^^^^^ What will happen if you dont is youll stuff around getting the line lengths right, and pay for new sleeving, and then the newer front will stretch more than the older one. Back to square one.
Not much goes wrong with kites, but when it does, fix it properly. Most kite stores will show you how to disassemble the bar and lines, and how to tune them yourself if you want to hang around.
If the line didnt snap from wear and tear and was cut close to the kite, you can get all 4 lines re-sleaved for around $30.
