This has been posted in a few threads:

I find Cotton Tree in Maroochydore great just after high tide, huge bank to play on but it can be quite busy when the wind is up. Watch out for the tidal current starting about 3hrs after high tide, it can rip through.

Also have a look at the forum on "where to kite in Maroochydore in SE'er" for info on Golden Beach.

Cheers, see you on the water

Assumption - U R in or near Sunshine Coast....
(refer to locations map Gateman posted it is now a sticky on Qld forum)

Safety / learner bias 1=best - but all r good
0) The weather - localised.. v.useful
www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml
1) Lake Weyba - with help for launch or it is a drift launch otherwise (self launch on water) - but this is easy to do especially if U go out and watch a local - U will see multiple times a day when it is on. Shallow (standing depth for 95%+ of kited area).
1b) Lake Cootharaba - but go with someone else interested in kiting. It often is as good as Weyba without the crowds so you will not get help from a fellow kiter by just turning up..
1c) DI point lagoon - requires 4WD and specific wind direction (mstly in Spring).
2) Golden Beach Caloundra - --- (NOT the river mouth = Bulcock beach). Read comments on site map.
3) Brighton or Sandgate - read comments - best when not high tide - the water's edge along most of the front there is a rock wall - but as soon as the tide drops... A lot of Brisbane kiters have learnt there.
4) Maroochydore River not in the mouth about 100 to 150m back in a NE to E when tide from 3/4 in to 1/2 way out --- there are large water covered sand flats across the channel. (check piks). Once the wind goes SE most of the action is in the river mouth from one side to the other and not a beginner spot - alot of the sand bank area can be in a wind shadow from the Cotton Tree caravan park...

Try to buddy up a bit where possible.
Cheers
Rick
