Poor advice. Keep flying the trainer kite, more kite flying makes a better kite flyer, why does this not make sense to some people?
Get in the water whenever you can there are several spots around Margs where you are safely able to practice but if you screw up you will end up back on the beach anyway.

Trainer kites by definition are for training purposes, more specifically to train you in preparation for flying a larger inflatable and de-power-able kite. People who fly trainer kites typically like to move the kite very fast in figure of 8, developing power, and have no perception of the sweet spot on the bar as there is no possibility of adjusting the power on the trainer kites...

Going back from an inflatable kite to the trainer in my opinion is thinking backwards and is not very relevant to the future progression of the student. They will feel heavy bar pressure, won't be able to adjust the power and will dive the kite in figure of 8's through the power zone. That's all very easily done for anyone and if you do too much of it on the trainer, when you go back to the inflatable kite, you will tend to fly them aggressively and want to pull the bar in too much...that's just the way it is.

But don't take my advice, it's "poor"...

I don't have a trainer kite and have never used one. It is interesting though, that when the wind is average, I often see the better kiters in our area out with a training kite

I defo agree BurkeyBoy!iv been kiting for years an my good mate and i still like to get the traineer kite out and go through tricks and things that where thinking about goin for.A good example is learning to steer a kite riding blind.A trainer kite wont own you if you accidently steer it through the middle of the wind window and if you get the basics of the trick you want to learn down packed on the trainer kite it defo shows when trying the trick on a full size kite for the first time.
