hi guys

i am done with my lessons and ready to buy my first kite and board . I am thinking of going second hand kite and board as that seems like a thing to do if you are new to this sport .

i live in melbourne and weigh around 76 kgs height 5.10.
my instructor told me that perfect kite size for me is 10 - 12 m . I am new to this therefore dont know much about brands , prices etc . how much will it cost ? what should i look for before buying kite , board etc

any help will be appreciated guys

Didn't your instructor discuss these questions with you?

A good start would be to head to your local kite beach and watch for a while. This will give you a good idea of the sizes and types the locals ride.

Well - its kind of like saying "I have just had my driving lessons and need a car, any suggestions?"...the chance of getting a meaningful reply is small.

Your instructor has indicated a size so that is a good start.

Go down to your local and see what others are flying and have a chat with the local shop. Go from there.

Budget -$1,500 would be close to bottom end for anything decent, although a good second hand kite and board to learn on can be had for $1200 if you look... and you can of course pay more, if you want brand new latest gear.

Spend money on a good new harness.

thanks guys

speaking to locals sounds good and also thanks for the new harness tip

i did notice on the second hand section of this website kites which are older than 2009 range from 500 700

are they worth considering ? or i should really get into 2010 stuff ?

Most instructors will give the same advice as its best to progress in 10-20 knots of wind so a 10-13m kite is the safest option, also look at the usual winds in the area your gonna kite, for a one kite a 10-11m is the best option but if your serious then a two kite quiver is usually all you'll need, start with the bigger option then add a smaller kite as your skill level progresses and you start to ride in stronger winds,8-12 or 9-13 are great options.
