hi all

just completed my 4th lesson and finally got my own gear, was wondering if there were any other newbies living south of the river that would be keen to go kiting? being a learner the confidence isn't great and figured it'd be easier to get better with others. hope to hear back. cheers

cool sounds like there will be a few of us newbies getting together:0) pm me your number, Rumblefish already has and have two other people interested.
The clinic will be held where they usually do their lessons which is between Ness road and Nairn Road on Melville Beach Pde. You have to let Greg know if your interested. I posted another topic re this in the hookup forum:0)

Hey all.
Newbie here as well. I have this week off so I'm going to have refresher lessons and hopefully pick up a smaller kite. I have an 11m that I bought for lighter winds.

Let me know if you are heading to Woodies and I will come and hang out, can give you a hand launching.

Yesterday I sat and watched the kiters at Cott ripping it up.
I really need to get back on the water.

chelles, Wed or Friday are both ok with me. I'll be looking at kites today, so may have a new kite but if not I can give you a hand launching. Either Melville or Woodies. JC are you free those times ?

RPM you might be referring to Melville specifically ?
Woodies has experienced kiters and I've been talking with the guys with 10 years experience at Safety Bay.

I am a newbie doing lessons (for the third time) as a refresher and I'm doing lessons on the beach with experienced kiters.
So far I've spent $1,500 and 18 hours of on-on-one tuition.

If I could take an experience kiter out onto the water with me, that would be great. Having other people to practice what I have learned with has to be safer than kiting alone. Safety, repetition and having more than yourself to remember what you have been taught is a good start, surely.

I see we have all recently done lessons and are looking to practice the skills we have been taught. Hopefully the fact we all paid for tuition and are obviously willing to learn from professionals will provide some benefit.

No red thumbs here. I'm sure there are newbies who think they know everything after 3 lessons, but some of us have a profoud rspect for the potential dangers of the sport and we are looking to minimise that risk by shared experience and re-enforcing good techniques.

I'm down at Safety Bay again tomorrow arvo guys, so won't see you at Melville.
Wind was great today. Good for beginners anyway - nice and constant, not gusty.

bugger did i miss another ghostly comment from RPM

i have done my 3 lessons plus a clinic and intend to do more, i have a lot more to learn and dont pretend to know everything, i read up on everything, watch dvd's and watch kiters actually kiting, i gain confidence from being with others and find generally experienced kiters dont always want to hang around with us newbs. I actually find other newbs help out a fair bit

Happy Kiting everyone:0)

Yuh I know. $1,500 on lessons sounds crazy. It's 20 hours worth.
I did my first lessons 3 years ago though. Thats why I said they were refresher lessons.
I'm compensating for not having had any driving lessons ;)

Will let you know when I have my new kite, so if anyone comes down to SB, you can spot me.

Hi All,

Another newb here. I'm just getting into my lessons on Monday and hope to be on the water soon. I live accross the road from Cotesloe dog beach so if anyone is heading this way in the evenings let me know. I'd be happy to help launch, or whatever until I get on the water myself.

PaleCanadian,

I am a total noob too but for what it's worth I will offer a little advice as I live
up the road from Cottesloe dog beach too. You should ask your instructore about where to go, but basically you do not want to be going out there until you have a lot more experience. There are a lot of people, as well as reefs and rocks that you can damage or get damaged by. It's very much an experienced kiters place. The best place local to us is further down at Leighton Beach, well away from the public. But as a newbie you can still get blown downwind into the public areas (as I did). Plus the waves can make it hard to get up going on the first few outings. I stopped going out locally and went down to Safety Bay every day last weekend which was a REVELATION. Lots of wind, smaller waves, people much more accepting of beginners being around. I felt so much more relaxed and finally everything clicked - by Monday I was going upwind, both directions, turning (sometimes), the whole banana. Still deffo not more than a beginner, but that's my advice for ya. Good luck with it.

Thanks Ben,

I will take your advice and make my way to Safety bay. I did notice the guys by Cottesloe had a fair bit of skill. It seems from everything I've read Safety bay is the place to begin.
