Hey guys,
I've just picked up a 2013 gaastra gekel 14m kite and had a few issues flying it. Not sure I'm getting enough pressure in the LE and struts. What pressure should i be at?
Also the fill valve is not one way. Is this normal or should I ask the kite shop to replace the valve??
Thanx guys.

Yes I have had lessons and have used a mates 10m with no problems. I'm 114kg so need a bigger kite. My main question was about one way valves and is it normal not to have one on my kite.

Thanx kitcho207,
I did read this post but was wondering if anyone new the actual pressure you should aim for.

All kites are different and if you really want to know download your kites manual.
All kites fly better pumped up reasonable hard.
Just keep pumping until it gets hard, then pump a few more.
I don't think kite gauges are very accurate. So even if you do get the magic number from the manufacturer, you probably won't get it right anyway.

You sure you aren't pumping into the deflate valve?
Otherwise maybe the ball has fallen out

Just read this post and regarding to it:

I used to have a pump gauge on my pump, was working fantastic and then one kite session I come in and its gone! someone had gone into my bag and taken my gauge off my pump. I never knew that they were that valuable... Anyway I'm yet to find the b*stard that took it.

Pump gauges are indeed great to have a visual feedback about the pressure inside that tube. However, I still bend the tubes and flick with a finger against the LE to be 100% sure. You are not the only one having issues with pressure. Have launched heaps of kites which were slack like an Aussie sausage :)

Thanks for the info guys.

I do have the full manual for the kite and valves aren't mentioned. It also states to pump the kite up properly but not too much so it explodes..
Lol.. and yes, I am using the inflation valve.

Just really hard getting the top of the valve in before too much air escapes ??

Try tapping the valve with your finger quickly blocking and unblocking the rapidly escaping air. Sometimes this right centres the ball inside.

I pump up with a gauge too, but don't use it. I get to 6psi and if I try for more feels like the handles will snap off.
I have a background in fluid mechanics and don't trust the gauge. Ping test works for me.
You will get faster putting your finger over the valve then ppopping the plug in. Just think about it before you do it.
