well im taking the leap over from windsurfing! been windsurfing for 10years plus and now keen to take up kiting for the light winds when cant get out wavesailing!
got two questions 1- is there anyone on northern beaches that can give lessons? im not keen on travelling to botany bay and forking out for x amount of lessons. ..2 - do i really need lessons?? is it something i can learn on my own if i go away and fork out on a kite. i have flown kites ( 2 line power line kites) before so really just need direction on launching & landing etc. anyway cheers for any help

Agree..... grab a few lessons and learn the safety side of things, get a feel for the kite and you will get going really quickly.
Its a bit like snowboarding, snowskiing you can do it on your own, but with a few lessons you can avoid most Kitemares.
email chris from griffinkites he is based up there and i am sure he will have contacts

Sorry to be the one to tell you this, but there are virtually no crossover skills from windsurfing that you will use in kitesurfing.
So you will need lessons, BUT do yourself a big favour and get a trainer kite, or get your old kite out and learn to fly it really really well before you get any lessons, if you do that you will only need one or two lessons.
There is a bit more to cover in the lessons than just launching and landing.
