Have been pondering the idea of whether or not an old kite on a compatible bar and lines would be safer and perform better? Has anyone done this before?

Cheers

I'm farely positive the short answer is no
Yesterday a buddy and i pulled out a flexifoil 16 m storm 2 kite from his roof
It's from about 2003 or 04 it was still crispy and had good lines So we pumped it and flew it in a 10 to 15 knot easterly in Sydney
There was a slow leak but we both decided to take it out for a few runs.
I know now why I was 8 kg lighter then. Even though that kite looks like a cross between a edge and a vegas
Gee that kite was hard work in comparison to what we ride now. Massive leading edge 7 massive struts. Slow and prone to Hindenburging
Maybe if you were into aeronautics and wanted to put a bridle on it you may make it fly ok but otherwise not worth the effort.
My Airush Razor is so much easier and better to fly

That sounds awesome! But in saying that I'm not talking about that old just taking say a 2007-2010 kite and running it on a 2012 bar and lines I understand it will never be a high performance kite, but it seems to be whatever I get into I like to try every aspect big small old and new. Probably why I have about 15 surfboards I ride on different occasions

i take my old wipikas for a nostalgic run now and then, some 2006s that i have are a great kite, very stable just the bar lacks the throw and feel, so imo i think youd be good

Give it a go ToshAuer just be careful.
I just don't think a more modern bar is a magic bullet that will make a older kite safer or fly any better.
Make sure the safety line is compatible ie front line or rear line or both fronts, and some of the old bow kites had a 2 to 1 on the bar (pulleys on the bar ends)
I think every intermediate kiter should ride a older C kite every now and then to brush up on edging skills

Putting a late model bar on an older kite will not make it perform any different, the performance of the kite comes from its intrinsic design, the design built into the kite itself.
There may be some improvement to flag out safety, but if you don't know what you are doing you may make things much worse too. Get the set up you decide on checked out by someone who you know to be well experienced.
Like IanR said above, the old Flexi still felt like an old and less evolved design, and flying it on a modern 2014/13 bar would not change that.
