hi to all out there, I am a learner gumbee, I have a 2012 cabrihna vector. something doesn't feel/look right on my kite. both the steering lines ( the outside lines) always seem to have a lot of play in them, they are always slack and not taught like the centre lines ? The other kites I watch and the ones I had lessons on all seemed to be taught or of even tension. I have tried depowering and powering up the kite but no change? Just wondering is this normal on this model kite or something needs altering/adjusting? Any suggestions much appreciated. thanks.

Grab your safety leash, wrap it around a tree then unwind your lines and untangle them as if you were connecting to your kite. Connect all 4 pigtails of your lines to the safety leash clip and then walk back to your bar.

Grab the bar (stand up) and pull the lines tight. Your bar should just be able to touch the top of the chicken loop if you pull really hard. If it touches easily, or on one side only etc, you know your lines are uneven.

You may need to also check the bridal lines on the kite and see if these have stretched. This is less likely however than your bar lines.

It is normal to have a little slack in the steering lines. It will also be worse if your bar is too narrow for the kite.

If all that is too hard or confusing, take it to a shop or better still an instructor at the beach for help.

Yo , when depowered and fully depowered at the bar you should have some back line slack, fully powered and full power at the bar should be tought to the eye, at the age of kite there's every chance of line shrinkage , ie you back lines are different length than front lines, there's numerouse ways to get this right , new lines, line stretching or pigtail adjustments, as a newbie I'd recommend you hit up your local shop, get them to show you then you'll be able to DIY in the future, a properly tuned kite is a much more pleasurable and easier kite to fly

Another thing to realise is when you buy a kite with "light bar pressure" it literally means that the back lines have less force going through them, resulting in saggy looking lines.
When you have a higher bar pressure you have more pressure in the lines, making them appear straighter.
One thing you can do to get more bar pressure (assuming your lines are fine) is to adjust the steering lines on the kite towards the leading edge, however this also means more delayed turning.

I had the same thing on my switchblade 2010 (i am a newbie but i think it has medium to hard bar pressure, not so light i would say). Tuning the bar solved line slack, put more tension on lines and kite got more responsive.

Explained here:

Don't know about difference in bars (lines) but principle is the same, only thing different is maybe the way they left "more line length" to adjust.
Try yourself, if problem isn't solved, go to the local shop, they can always help. Sometimes doesn't even come from factory fully tuned.
