do you think it's worthwhile going to a wakeboard cable park to get the hang of wakeboarding prior to trying to stand up on your own kitesurf board? (just doing body drag for the moment to practice kite skills). I'm sure it would be a good idea, but I guess my question might be how much would it be worth it? (ie how much effort to go out of my way to get to a cable park)... haven't done wakeboard before, but can snowboard for what it's worth...

Yes yes yes and yes. I was really struggling with the water start (having no board skills at all, in any discipline). 3hrs of cable park action (Singapore's East Coast Park) meant the next time I tried with a kite, I nailed it. Good luck.

I may have been ambiguous before. Yes. ;-)

The main advantage is that it gives you a consistent pull/power, on consistently flat water, from a consistent start position. So let's you concentrate on the bit immediately after the water start... which for me is immediately when I used to fall over.

Yes.

They are too expensive IMO. A rip off actually.
Stick with practicing out on the ocean.
I know I said before cable parks are a good way to practice, but I went to our local one the other day and didn't make it past the door after I saw what they wanted me to fork out.

Kazan, you raise a good point about the cost... I mean, you don't even get to keep the cables or anything.

But for me, I quickly reached a plateau in progress and I was getting to the point where I was getting sick of trying to water start and eating ocean. For me, it was money well spent... but it's like anything, money spent will fast track the progress (in my opinion).

Warehouse13, there's return flights to singapore for under a grand... no excuse ;-)

Aye... I'm sure it will... I have started go proing my attempts at Kiteboarding... mostly so I can get home and check my form/stance.

I swear I was totally awesomely stanced... but on review of go-pro, it showed I was poo stance man.
