Hi dany,
Half the challenge of riding waves is to figure all that stuff out for yourself. No one can give you the definitive answer as there are so many variables which change the way you ride a wave.
The kite has a bearing on the way you ride, some need to be thrown around and some are happy to park and drift nicely.
The wave has a big influence as smaller waves won't have the power to push you down the kline so kite power is essential. Bigger waves can sustain your speed and allow you to cut sick with or without the kite.
Wind direction and strength have a bearing in that cross off is only parrk and ride, side can be small movements of the kite to prevent luffing or over riding the kite. Cross on almost always requires movement of the kite to keep moving along without falling.
Being unhooked or hooked has a bearing on the style you follow. As do strapped and unstrapped.
Any and all of these things change the way you ride a wave and no two waves are ever the same. This is what keeps it so addictive! Grab your kite and your board, find an uncrowded wave and give it a go, if it doesn't work, change it up and try something else. All you do will improve you as a wave kiter.
Enjoy the ride!
