Hi all, I would like to start getting into wakestyle kiting so was just wondering what is a good kiteboard (with bindings) and kite to get. I was thinking of a slingshot rpm for the kite and slingshot darkside or a Cabrinha Custom for the board. i have slingshot octane kites at the moment, xenon laluz and underground tahee boards both with straps. thanks

Stick with what you have got............ when you can handle pass, mobe and other flick spinny tricks then upgrade your gear if you think you need to.

Remember............ all these wakestyle tricks were being done years and years ago when the kites and boards where nowhere near as good as your equipment. ( the stuff you currently have )

Couldn't agree more. I come from the world of snowboarding and can't help but realize kiteboarding is slowly becoming the same, meaning people are too focused on the gear rather than their actual technique/progression. In my book, the rider who deserves the most respect is the one who can barely afford some old/used gear but throws down better than most people with brand new top of the line gear... That being said, I wouldn't think going into boots is the right way to progress INTO the wakestyle tricks, but rather to go from solid unhook and kiteloop skills and tricks with what you already have first, then consider upgrading the gear. And yes, 137cm for boots is a little short for a 90kg rider. Maybe consider 140cm. Most freestyle kites will do for an advanced progression, try a few of them if you get the chance and decide from there.

well right now i have a octane 12m and 16m which i will be keeping, i also have a slingshot rev 9m that was my first kite. this will be the kite that I'm going to upgrade but to maybe a 10m, didn't really get windy enough for the 9m.
i occasionally go to the cable park and would like to use a board there as well so i don't have to keep hiring one.

Have just come from a crypt now own a steeze (w/ cabby sync backless bindings) both unreal boards, the custom is the cabrinha equivelant for the steeze. As cbulota mentioned go up a size for wake style boards then another again if you want bindings on it.

Never ridden a custom although would have been my goto board as they are much better then the steeze if you want to straps. BUT I was in the same position as you where we have minimal days and I frequent the cable park. The underground steeze has a ptex base which was designed for sliders, very much a hybrid board but to give you an indication I need to be cranked to bother throwing bindings on my 137 and I'm 65kg (not that I am at that stage honestly). I've had the same thoughts on upgrading equipment but thinking I wanna get my sbends more consistent, unhook in varying conditions and get handle passes down before can warrant the upgrade!

There is no need to change from the Octanes, but RPM's or Ozone C4's are better for pure wakestyle.
We have purchased some closeout 2011 Xenon Infra (and Laluz) we are selling them complete for $599 brand new, might be worth a thought?
