hi i live in the west around shoal water way im quite new i have a 9 meter cabrinha which my instructor said for me it was good for between 18 to 25 knots went out the other day struggled to get up in 18 knots just wondering if an 12 meter kite would be the best second kite or a 11 would be better for lighter days down to 15 im about 88kgs

cheers for the info

Yeah, you're going to struggle on a 9 @ 18kn.

I'm 90kg I have a 15 and 10.5. I can handle the 15 untill just over 20kns (get going in 12/13), the 10.5 goes from 17ish to 25.

How often do you get light winds and how light? While a 11 or 12 will be nice at 18kns, personally, I would go for a bigger gap to give yourself a bigger overall range. 9 and 11 has a big overlap. Consider a 13

Yeah I'm a bit heavier than you (bit over 100). I was riding switchblades 12m 16kn to 25 and 9m over 25. I've just bought new kites and decided to go 10m and 13m for a bit more bottom end. So at your weight 9/12 would be the ticket

i rode a 9 m switchy from 18 up to learn on, then moved to a 12/8 combo worked a treat.

a 12m switchblade or airush lithium will get you going 15 up.

A lot will come down to technique, also im heavier than you so may come down to board size and rocker, i was riding a 138 very flat board to learn on which made a huge difference in getting up in marginal wind on a 9.

so go a 12- hope that helps.

2 metre gaps between kite sizes gives a bit of overlap, 3 metres still works but with little or no overlap. so it depends on your long term plans, if you don't think you will buy another kite for a while maybe a 3m gap is best as it will give you the widest possible wind range. If you think you might keep 'accumulating' kites shoot for 2 metre increments.
