I'm still really new, but, IMHO, it's a combination of baywx and/or Kitebom, and experience.

If you review the graph on the beacons (on baywx) you generally get an idea if its going up or going down... that's as about as scientific as I can figure it is.

Also use BOM Land Winds to work out what's going on upwind of where you're interested in:

www.bom.gov.au/jsp/watl/wind/index.jsp

If in the meantime, you unlock the secret of wind prediction, email me!

Seems a bit rude to not use seabreeze when you are using the forum for information ....
The great thing about seabreeze is that it accumulates data from multiple sources including BOM, local port authority buoys and any other available source.

Have a closer look at the data for your location on seabreeze and I think you will find it quite rich. If not pm Laurie!

Dave,

thank you for pointing this out. It was kind of a given seabreeze is awesome and is used... seriously.

I tend to use the predictions for planning my week (apply for a pass etc.) and then use the like of baywx for a 'what is *actually* happening now.

If there is something on Seabreeze that can actually show me what's happening in the bay (Melbourne!) then please point me in that direction.

Oh and just to pay due deference.... thanks Laurie, this site is awesome.

seabreeze (www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/vic.asp) does show forecast as well as current conditions. also if you cross reference all wind sites (seabreeze included), they all use the same data from BOM - www.bom.gov.au/vic/observations/melbourne.shtml
