Run and hide. The 12m Link was a 9-strut beast not suitable for any kiters much less newbies.

Perhaps a Link club should be formed? Sort of like a penny-farthing club; something for folk who somehow enjoy riding dangerous, poor-handling, outdated and inefficient designs.

Try to go 2008 or later. About 12m for your first kite in qld. Anything with a supported leading edge. Should be able to pick up something decent from 2008 for $500 or so.

As Bennie said though, your instructor should be your first port of call.

There's loads of good kites out there that would suit you Scotty, it's just quite funny that your 1st pic was the 12m Link. I'm sure it is a bargain, but Slingshot's worst ever kite. Do yourself a favour & think of something else. Get something as recent as possible, but even Slingshot's next model, REV1 was an excellent kite. When posts are advising getting lessons they are serious, learning is fraught with danger (not only to u but also the innocent kiddies nearby)
Good luck

I "learnt" on a 12m Link and after about 12months the only thing i had learn t was not to let it hit the water because it was so difficult to re launch.

Switched to a 09 Rebel and progressed so quickly it wasn't funny.
