Hi guys
Just a newbie starting out.

Rider: Weight,Level (beginner)
Style: Freeriding, Surf, Wake, Freestyle
Weather: 15-20 knots

Looking to purchase either 2013 CABRINHA CHAOS KITE or 2013 CABRINHA DRIFTER KITE.
They are costing pretty much the same price.
My boarding skills should be fine, i usually hit the snow parks and pretty confident on a board, just starting out on the kite.

I want something that is responsive and obviously wont rip my body apart ;)

Any opinions would be great :)

I'm guessing you'll be unhooking a fair bit in the future, Chaos better choice if they're the two options. Havent flown either myself though.

If they are your only choices go the Drifter the Chaos is a competion kite, a little more advanced that you need.
Develop some kite skill then think about a Chaos.
Kiteboarding is 80% kite skill 20% board skill, Once you can fly the kite without thinking about it then you can start to figure the board

If you really want a kite to do Freeride, Surf, Wake and Freestyle look at an all rounder like the Park, Dice or Envy.
The Park is slightly better for wakestyle, the Dice slightly better in the waves, but both excellent all rounders, and very easy to use, I have not tried the Envy yet.
If you are limiting yourself to the chaos or Drifter, you will be limiting your scope to have a kite to do all you want.

thanks guys :)

well i can get either of them for around $1200 - $1250 11m, 2013 models hence why im leaning towards them
yeah i like the park is it much better for the extra $$$ ?

i want to get something decent that will last as id rather get a second 7m or 8m

im prob leaning towards the drifter right now but not limited to just these two
difficult as everyone different opinions and i guess it comes down to the individual experience of trying them out with conditions on the day

any others to consider?

Think you should get the switchblade.

If I can start all over again when I started to kite I would choose the Ride from Naish. It is easy to fly, jump, smooth on the gusts and good upwind. I have a 10 and 8 2013. After the 1st year when you can fly the kite without having to look at it, jump. self launch and selfland go for a high end kite. cheers

The drifter is an all rounder, advertised as more of a wave kite, but super easy to use, loops great, great unhooked, great jumping and high quality.

What would be ideal is if you could demo them. The drifter is a good kite designed primarily for wave riding, but is also Ok for freestyle. The Chaos is not so much a "competition kite", its more of an old school C style kite but with a bridle, so that it depowers safely and relaunches quite easily. It is best suited to hooked and unhooked freeride tricks, and is the kite of choice for boot skooting wakestyle riders, it unhooks really well (stable when unhooked) and has a powerful kiteloop with moderate bar pressure.

Slingshot rpm is a great kite, it feels really stable in the gusty conditions with their split strut design

After recently looking around I ended up with the 11m switchblade and now an 8m Switchblade for windy days..

The SB seems to be Cabrihnas do everything kite, whereas the others are more specific.

I had been looking at the Drifter too.. It looks fun for surf and I'm keen to try one once I have some skills up..

Most people seem to Ride Cabrihna SB's or the Naish Park..

^^^^^^^^^prolly cause they've been around so long. Drifters have been around only since 2012. They are by far the best kite cabrinha have ever made. I know experienced guys just love them and newbies hop on and are blown away by how easy they are to fly. Have you seen the new Noise Pro that everyone loves? Looks just like a black drifter. Two of my newb mates just bought 2013 drifters and are froffin on how easy and awesome they are for launching landing handling turning. Plus they can be made to jump really high, pivot smooth, tight and fast but with sensitivity, and they sit patiently when you charge at them. This decision is a no brainer for someone with experience, no matter how good other kites like the Park are. You are looking at one of the best kites ever made period. This is a FUN kite, the switchie is BORING next to it's little sister. an' Forget about freestyle, are you Youri Zoon's cousin? No? Have you been unhooking and rolling? No? Forget about the Chaos, it will limit your progress, i started on a c-shape and got flogged day in day out. The drifter is the **

I think I hit a never when I called the Chaos a competion kite.
The reason I did this was before I made my comments I when to the kitepower website just to make sure that it was the kite I thought it was. So I Quote

"The Chaos is Cabrinha???s all new competition Freestyle kite. This kite is dedicated to one thing, delivering the absolute best performance in Freestyle competition. Designed with PKRA superstar Alby Rondina, this bridled C kite represents the progression taking place in today???s touring freestyle arena. Lets be clear, this technical performance kite is not for everyone. It won???t mow your lawn. It won???t leave you dangling. But if you are looking to get on the podium then this is your kite"

Good luck space30 with your purchases. I haxe no vested interest in any kite company and made my recommendations purely on my personal opinion, I do have a team deal with Airush but specifically did not mention the 10 other kite I would recommend you to buy before either the Chaos or the Drifter
