Hi everyone, I'm looking for a kite to replaice my 14m, my weight is about 90kg and I ride a 138 board. I'm looking for something that will get me hammering along in at least 14knotts. Is a 12m Bandit dos the right kite to go for? I've heard that there super super grunty.

Cheers

The 14m would get you going in a good 10-12kts but the 12m would be fine from 14kts

Hi
The 14 bandit dos is an excellent kite in light conditions. Where the 12 likes a bit more at the bottom it will work but you have to keep it moving. Ive got both but in general i ride the 14 and 10 not the 12.Ive found the 14 turns faster than the 13 from last year, and doesnt back stall even unhooked.
Have fun

Have the 9m and 12m bandit dos. I am really impressed by these kites, previously on xbow's. The only issue I am having is letting out the rope on the depower. It tends to get stuck and is very diificult to let out. Do you have any tips for this?
The other issue is pumping, as recommended PSI is 12 for stuts and 10 for LE. Using a guage I found that I had to pump till the pump virtually stops. For any new purchasers make sure that you use a guage to get a good idea of pressure required.

Last years kites had the same depower setup and the early ones we got we swapped them for a pull pull depower strap which works fine, as far as the rope getting stuck i havent had any problems on the dos yet but they are getting a lot of use yours may come good.

Make sure you do pump it up good as it does need the full presure to hold the shape, prevent inverting and better relaunch.

Hi guys, pump the bandit dos up tight by all means, but the recommended 12 and 10 is really excessive except in extremley high winds. We ride them all in all sort of conditions and pump them up to 8-9psi in the LE & struts, its plenty and doesn't put the kite under unnecessary stress. And from my point of view (58kg & often on the 14mtr sometimes the 8) I can tell you, i cant get it above 9 without jumping on the bloody pump, so that is enough as far as i am concerned. George has ridden that same 14mtr kite in 23plus knots and i pumped it up so it was definately only at 8-9psi and no hassles, no buckles, no kinking the LE edge all good.

Have Fun!

The 2009 JN Mr F 12.0m will get you going in 12knots. I'm 75kg and am powered up on the Mr F 8.0m in 15knots. About as grunty as the Bandit Dos but not as expensive.......

Just unpacked and pumped up my NEW 8m Dos Black with blue tips look out for it locals hehe
What a cool looking kite , very impressed with the wind range they give it in the owners manual 18 < 40 Knots thats very impressive if I can get power in 18 knots this will undoubtably become my main kite......
Can't wait for the wind to get it out of the nice large Bandit Bag.........

Wow thats pretty impressive mate,I'm 90kg's at moment so should be able to do the same will try it in 15 soon and see how it flys.
In that case this kite then has one of the biggest wind range vantages I've ever heard of , this subject should be pimped.

The 555 is a verry large board for me and did need to fly the kite in the lulls but it is a awsome kite i wouldnt say that it is the kites sweet spot but from 20 kts its great. I flew the 7.5m bandit as my main kite last season even when a lot of guys were swinging there 12m's i would just ride my surf board this kite generates a lot of aparent wind if you fly it hard and build speed then you sit back and cruise. have fun on the new kite, lots of guys in whyalla weighting to get there new bandits out that they just got will almost have more bandit kites in whyalla than kiters

ok boys, it;s actually can't weight to sea yoo!

But in all fairness, the dos rocks. Just got a 12M and it's got anything anyone would want...great boost, great hang time and the low end is UNBELIEVABLE... was out on it in 10-12knots on a 130-40 board and was riding just fine! Even able to do a couple of nice floaty back loops!

Have to keep trying to go lower and lower... the wind's even lighter today and might try it again this time with 'the door (145-45)' I reckon she'll be alright...

will let you knot...woops, will let yoo know!
Anyone wondering...the dos is the sh@$!

Spell check who needs that every year they put new words in the dictionary makes it hard to keep up so i will just keep on doing it my way sorry.

But seriously I am in training for the big winds i wake up every morning for a coke and mars bar, Then hit up the local deli for a yiros chips and gravy, then a couple of hrs later i will head to chew and spew(work canteen) for some freshly deep fried food, then a bit later get the munchies and go back for some dimsims withe soy sauce then straight home for tea, desert and supper + maby a midnight snack to take care of those hunger pains. Hope to weigh around 150kgs by feb weighting for those big winds so i can just ride my 12m. sweet

But seriously if you cant get hold of the f one bandit dos catch up with tino and try out the JN mr f....... you cant go wrong + you will save some $$$$$

Has anyone had issues with stretched back lines, for some reason the one side is now about 4cm longer than the other, I have tied a knot in leader line to compensate, could this be from self launching with a bit of sand on that side of kite?

No

Already seen nearly half a dozen bar and line related failures in the last month. Havent seen any problems with the kites yet tho, just the bar and lines. Oh sorry, a dodgy installed bladder last night too.

Just wondering mate,You do realize tying a knot in the leader line will infact stress the fly line to beaking eventually do you?
Or have you done this at the pig tail itself, which would be the correct way to go?

There are little adjustment straps on the back lines down on the bar under the little wetsuit sock just check/ adjust them there if needed.

Even taking the adjustment straps into account, the one line is about 4cm longer than the other. Spoke to Neil from Hold The Line Kites, this is a common issue and it can be tricky to sort out exact line lengths. I may go down the route of getting a small pigtail extension. Also noticed that my 9m came with 22m lines, whilst the 12m has 2m pigtail extensions. Do you only fly the larger sizes on longer lines

Both my 8m and 12m have the same sized bar lines etc only the 14 and 16 m have the bigger bar but the lines are still the same length. I think that if you have a serious line problem just replace both before they fail, which it sounds like they will. have seensome pigtail joins pull out of late,

SEND IT BACK AND TELL EM TO FIX IT. ALL LINES ARE PRESTRETCHED, YOU NEVER SEE FONE GEAR HAVE TO MANY PROBLEMS. BUT MAYBE ITS A SIGN OF THE TIMES. TO MANY PEOPLE NOW JUST DONT GIVE A #@$%.
FONE GEAR ROCKS.I LIKE IT ANY WAY.YOU WONT GET A SINGLE LINE TO EVER MATCH UP TO ANYTHING ELSE,YOU WILL HAVE TO GET TWO NEW LINES THE MANUFACTURERS LENGTH FROM SOMEWHERE DONT ASK ME WHAT COLOURS THEY WILL BE OR GO TO YOUR LOCAL SHOP AND THEY WILL SET YOU TWO NEW ONES.THE LINES ARE TESTED TO 60% OF THEIR BREAKING STAIN WHICH IN TOE STRETCHES THEM TO THE OPTIMUM LENGTH.BUT NO BODIES PERFECT GOOD LUCK BROTHER.YOU CAN FLY THE KITES ON WHATEVER LINE LENGTHS YOU SO PLEASE.THE TWENTY METRE LINES ARE FOR WAVES AND THE TWENTY FOUR ARE FOR FLAT WATER.SEE YA.YOU DONT NEED SAND TO LAUNCH THESE KITES JUST WALK TO ONE SIDE AND THE KITE WILL ROLL ONTO ITS TIP AND LAUNCH EASILY AND SAFELY, JUST REMEMBER TO HAVE THE GREEN IN YOUR RIGHT HAND.HAPPY KITING.

Basically the retailer and supplier have informed me that it is fine to solve the issue by tying a knot in leader line to even out line length. They are reluctant to change lines and maintain that it is safe to continnue using them.
I have checked with a third party who knows a lot about lines and he feels that this is reasonable.
