I'm looking for any opinions/knowledge on the current bow kites and thier bar setups. I'm considering a change over from c type based on the windrange and depower they claim. In reading the websites and forums there are two types of bar setups. One with pulleys returning to the centre lines like CB, Naish, Slingshot etc, and others pretty much a standard 4 line bar like GK, Best and Windwing. Some forums talk about high bar loads etc and also bar simplicity. Does anyone have an idea on the differences/pros/cons? I noticed a turbo diesel last week down at hampton and it looked super smooth.
Cheers

I think you pretty much have it figured out already. If you want the simplest bar setup maybe look at the Sonic. If you prefer to fly on the stopper ball I think the Slingshot is the best system.

the sonic and the Takoon Nova probably are more traditional in the feel of the bar, as in pressure and control.

The widespan kites like more imput into the steering lines and so the pulleys are a way of giving this but at some expense to feedback and bar pressure.

At any rate try as many as possible to find the one you like.

I bought a XBow because I wanted a 16m and SSTD will not be available until January.

I was worried about the reports on the XBow bar pressure and when I tried it I thought it was quite heavy so I got the PowerLock now it’s no problem.

Also I hadn’t been wind surfing for probably 12 months until last weekend. I couldn’t believe the boom pressure it was much higher than the bar on the XBow. I think kiteboarding is much less of a workout than windsurfing.

Regarding the XBow bar setup, it’s the best I have ever used. I have had Rhinos, SS and RRDs in the past.

hey there

just bought a switchblade (see topic 'just bought a switchie'

I quite like the bar actually, some people seem to feel it is a bit 'complicated'? I'm not sure about that. I find it pretty logical actually.

As for bar pressure? I dont have any issues with it at all. Works your arms a little more than a C shape, but hey, nothing wrong with building up the old biceps ! !

I would see if you can demo them from a good quality shop, and check the websites for info. The Cabrinha site is great. Download the videos on the Crossbow and Switchie.

I've got a windwing 10m and have just found the wind range is amazing, it really pulls more like a 12. Ive found I can upwind it from just below 15knots through to 35+. On top of that for when it gets scarey it 100 percent depowers, even in 35knot winds it is super controlable. great from a 4 line, good step up from the air rush and it really is tough in the surf. well made
