My Comments:

Yes Cabrinha IDS is a new style of self landing and 99% emergency depowering and self landing system. Yes I have used it on 7M, 9M, 10M and 13M Crossbow kites in the upper windranges for each kite show above, in locations where I could ditch the kite if it did not work well.
Everytime it has worked very well for me. I have always released the chicken loop when the kite is between 11 and 1 in the wind window, so almost straight overhead.
most times the kite has landed leading edge into the wind basically straight downwind or a bit off centre.
A couple of times it landed and then took off upside down like a kite ona fifth line can, and hovered a couple of M above the ground.
When this happened I simply wrpped the IDS line around my harness hook once and then fed the line onto and away from my hook with a hand over hand motion, once I got to the Y in the front lines I just transferred to one of the front lines and worked my way to the kite then just grabbed the LE and turned it over.
Then I just dropped the front line, walked back and got my bar and pulled it away and downwind of the kite until the IDS line was ready to be reset on the chicken loop - no tangles, walked into the water and rinsed all the sand off and reset the chicken loop, too easy to self land in any winds I reckon.

The IDS line is now upgraded and is plastic coated where it goes through the bar does not wear like the older red IDS line. The new grey and black plastic coated one is a free upgrade from any Cabrinha dealer.

I only gave it 8 and 8 because of the need to do the upgrade, but once you do it that will be the last time you will. The second 8 is because it does not wind up the lines and give me a Bl#w J#b.

I am looking to upgrade my kite from a north Rebel 14m. I had a go on a 12m switchblade ids the other day and loved the feel. I have not yet been able to try a crossbow. I liked the light feel of the sb and it seemed to turn fast and boost high. The wind was blowing 13-18 knots. I have only ever had one kite in my quiver and would like your opinion on which kite to go for. I am 90kg and ride a 136 Naish thorn. I am looking for something that will have a good wind range, lighter on the bar than the rebel, faster turning than the rebel and boost as well as the rebel. What are your thoughts?

This years SB IDS is a pretty sweet ride, its a really good all rounder, its good in waves although smaller sizes are probably better suited to unstrapped riding.
For general freestyle and a much more user friendly, better performing kite, than your old ride go the SB IDS.
No battens, stronger construction and overall better build quality too, cleaner bar, easier tuning and trimming, faster turning and flying and much easier relaunch, packs up smaller, proven one pump system, much better back up and service in Australia from the very professional and experienced Cab dealer network.
Self landing with the IDS system is a cinch.

NOOOOO, you absolutely cannot self land the IDS kites by any of the methods shown in the videos that Laurie posted a link for.
If you do land by those mthods you can get nailed if you don't get it right, and the kite relaunches with a rear line wrapped on the bar!!!
(has happened to me and I am very familiar with the method)

IDS kites can only be self landed by releasing the chicken loop, and they cannot be self launched by doing the opposite, nor can any of the other kites in the videos.

Sounds like you need a lessons or refresher on self landing and or the IDS system??

The IDS self landing works like a dream for me, I kite on my own a fair bit and have been using the IDS for the last 4 months, in winds up to 30 knots, without any problems at all. I kite very regularly, and have still not worn through the original self landing lines which have now been replaced by the plastic covered ones.

To self land my IDS using IDS system:
You need the full 180 degrees downwind free of obtacles. I hook my short safety into the IDS line ring (go through the chicken loop metal ring as well if you unhook); I don't trust the QR2 as it can loosen with riding, sand etc and have had it release.
For gentle landing in lighter winds put kite down at edge of window on wingtip; then walk directly upwind... Kite will be leading edge down directly downwind. Release QR1 to ids and kite will roll onto its back like 5th line.
For strong winds I do it at edge of water as in users manual. Let go of bar with kite at 12 oclock. Release QR1. Kite will either land leading edge down into the wind or hover like on a 5th line. The thing I hate is walking up/around the lines. You can use the current on the waters edge to keep them clear. As long as you don't let go, their is no power in the kite if it moves
