Got my 10m today took it for a test drive down at Melville, man this is one scary kite. I've never flown bows before properly soo took me a while to suss the jumps but man they are floaty and you just hang there not going downwind. It was real gusty so maybe that increased the scaryness of the jumps but wow it was so fun.

First things I noticed, really high aspect SLE.

Goes upwind soooo well, without an effort you can easily cruise back up the beach, its just amazing.

Relaunch, I didnt get it wet

Like all bows/SLE it handles gusts beautifully.

Perfect bar pressure, handled like a charm, lighter than my C's.

Unhooked, well I will need to retest this tommorow at woodies in some smoother wind but I did some basic stuff unhooked felt just as good as any C, real nice to load up against. But as I say tommorow I will give you a better report how it compares to C's unhooked.

The bar is real simplistic, chicken loop is a it ugly but its everything you would want, nice long depower strap for unhooked.

The leash it comes with is a bit stupid, way to small if you want to run it to the back of your harness properly.

Sets up nicely straight out of the bag like all kites should, all tuned up.

Also I've read you can change the bridle setup to suit unhooked more, I'll also give you some feedback on this.

All in all a very nice kite but tommorow I will really put it to the test see how it compares in some nice stable woodies wind.

spacemonkey...

just a comment about the leash...

the short leash supplied is a safety leash NOT a handle pass leash... designed to connect to the hook, spreader bar or front/side of harness....for perhaps the majority of riders who do not do these advanced tricks....

connecting the leash to the back may compromise some safety .... though i do understand that handle passers do want to connect to the back for tricks etc....

the 10m is a great kite....lots of range and fast....the kite probably came with the freestyle bridle already....(no connection between the front and rear lines).....if so, what's the bridle mod you mentioned you can make?

Yeah I'm pretty sure now that it came with a freestyle bridle on it. As for the leash I understand what your saying, if thats the only thing I can fault on the kite really and I'm one of seabreezes biggest known bow critics then yeah you know its a pretty decent kite. Have had comments that it flies very similar to the north rebel.

Hi Max/Spacemonkey

The two bridle options are explained pretty clearly on the EH website. The Ripper comes with the frestyle bridle installed and packaged separately is the standard bow bridle modification set of lines.

http://www.cabareteairforce.com/news/184/ARTICLE/1231/2006-06-17.html

I think that the setup it comes with is suited to most guys but Spacemonkey is more than welcome to try out the other setup and comment.

Cheers

John

i've flown a rebel 14 and a 9m very briefly.....to me, they felt very different kites to the rippers in the air....

i personally preferred the freestyle setup on all the rippers....but it may be different for different styles and different water surface conditions like waves...

without a doubt though, you'll love the ripper 10 and for stronger winds, the 8m is awesome....

had a ride of the 10 ripper yesterday.

Out of the bag looks pretty sweet, tidy little kite. Standard build like any other kite on the market (except ss kites). Bridle lines are pretty thin not sure if this will reduce bridle drag or wat, but something different. The lines the pulleys run on are thick though which is good to see.

Bar is real nice, super simple. Good bar grip, nice size. Lines are coated and seem to be top quality once again really thin like on the bridles. Chickenloop and depower setup is very clean. Personally I would prefer a bigger chickenloop for unhooking. Quickrelease works well, so well that i accidently grabbed it thinking it was part of the chickenloop body and it released. That was on the first run, no reoccurences for the rest of the session!

Ok into the air. She flys!

thats good to see. Very very stable and solid, didnt pump it to hard either. Nice light even bar pressure, I would place bar pressure somewhere between fone impact and regular front line flying c. Fone being a bit on the light side for me, so its just about right. Smooth power delivery in turns, maybe a little bit less powerful then other bows no where near as much as a c. Thrives hard on apparent wind, doesnt like to be played around with in the air, dumps alot of power when oversheeted so likes to be ridden with small rider inputs. No throwing it around in light winds.

Upwind, solid as! goes very very well, no complaints here.

Turning speed, quite good its quite a high ar kite but it is still nippy around the window.

boosting, didnt get a chance because the wind was light. Solid float though on a few transitions. Should be a lofty kite.

Would have liked to have a bit more wind so I could try throwing some unhooked tricks and airs on it. But overall it delivered pretty well for the conditions, i was impressed.

Took the 10m out for another session but this time at woodmans point in a nice strong steady seabreeze.

Very smooth jumps, very nice depower both for hooked and unhooked (nice long depower strap). HUUUUUUGE Range, going really well when 9m C's and bows alike were t-bagging actually needing to pull ina bit of depower to unhookit was that powerful. About 15knots I would estimate the intial wind. Picked up heaps in the after noon and was comfortable all day on the 10m for both hooked and unhooked riding (picked up to about 20-23 knots according to the graphs).

Saftey works like any other bow, pretty nice. Had a few troubles relaunching but anyone who has flown at woodies offshore side will appreciate how dodgy the wind can get on the water.

For me its the perfect kite, its so nice and cruisy just to ride around, it just sits there and pulls but with very little bar pressure and the perfect ammount of grunt. Goes upwind so well, jumps nice big and floaty for those who are into that stuff. Unhooks very nice, not overly grunty like some bow kites, just a nice medium. Was able to land all the unhooked tricks in my repitoire pretty much so no complaints there.

I'm normally at woodies offshore anytime the wind blows so just ask me for a go and I would be happy to lend it to you and you can see for yourself.

gone to the dark side I have hosko I never said I was against bows, just against the current bows. The ripper is technically a bow/SLE but it flies not too different from a C. The ripper provides everything I had in my C kites and more.

Any signs of wear on the bridle lines from the rings yet?

the latest ones come with pulleys on the rear bridle....

if yours doesn't have a pulley on the rear bridle, dchange the ring to a pulley....the line will wear with the ring after a period of time...

i put the ronstans on, they cost about $7 and all seems to be fine...

i have used both these two types....

www.ronstan.com/marine/product.asp?ProdNo=RF13101-2

come in red, grey and black

and more expensive...not sure if necessary...

www.ronstan.com.au/marine/product.asp?ProdNo=RF20100

whichever, but my advice is change the ring to a pulley if its one of the earlier rippers.....

BUT to my knowledge, all the latest rippers come with a pulley on the rear bridle...

I have used kites and paragliders with these pulleys for hundreds of hours. They work fine. All you need to do is check them just before launching to make sure they are turning. Coarse sand is not a problem but fine sand can jam them a little.
