Hi all - I'm a relative newbie and had lessons on different types of gear and never had a problem with my chicken loop/donkey dick coming off my harness. On my cult I think the dick may be too short or could it just be my inability to keep hooked in and too much movement (panic) when I crash?

Is my point valid and is there a solution or should I just persist and once competent that will become my solution?

Thanks for any tips/advice/sarcasm!!

some donkey dicks are to short and some are to flexible the modt common mistske i see is when relaunching that the chicken loop isnt actually sitting in the hook properly and when the kite powers up an launches it will pull the loop over the dik and you are unhooked. Train your self to check that your chicken loop is securely hooked in before water relaunching and especially when launching on the beach will stop this and becomes second nature eventually that even if you didnt have a donky dik you wouldnt have a problem.

It's probably a bit of both of the issues you mentioned.
Your probably having a spaz as you hit the water and pushing down on the bar which is putting too much pressure on the donkey dick. The donkey dick might also be a bit short.

Easy solution - buy a longer one from your local kite store.
Harder solution - consciously stop yourself from spazzing out when you crash.

I have a 2008 Helix , I also have problems with the donkey dick popping out every now and then . The donkey dick is definately too short . I felt that there was too much movement where it joins onto the chicken loop , so I slid some plastic tubing over the Chicken loop to prevent the donkey dick from sliding up. Works better but still has a tendency to come out when bodydragging back to board . This is the sixth f***u* that Naish have made with that kite.
OCTOPUS INFLATION : When leading edge was deflated four bladders never stayed inflated from day dot
SWIVEL FOR FRONT LINES : front lines twisted when rotating from day dot, replaced it with mickey mouse ears swivel from slingshot, worked awesome.
BRIDLE LINES : Lasted 12 months , replaced pulleys and bridle lines ( big $$$ there ) and put in 2ft of 4mm spectra where it runs through pulley so whole bridle doesnt have to be changed next time. ( like Slingshot had )
TRIM LOOP FOR SMART LOOP : First one lasted 6mths , bought another at $35 ,next one lasted 6mths , then purchased 10 metres of 6mm amsteel rope from riggers supplier for $50 and made up my own trim loop, and this has lasted 12mths and will last another 12mths.
BAR GRIP : Started peeling off after 3mths use, because to make it look nice with all different colours multiple pieces of grip were glued onto the bar causing gaps between them and then the inevitable reglueing of ends ready to peel off. One third of it has peeled off now and I have given up on it !

So far everything else on the kite is good , I HOPE .

WELL DONE NAISH

So I assume you'll be buying another naish kite when your current one finally loses the battle with the elements...mine is still pretty new so haven't experienced any of those problems yet...will definitely keep your reply in my fav's for future reference! Thanks..
