Hi there, talking about my xr5, as i already saied in another topic i find It little bit slow. I already do all settings to make It more direct, but i also noticed that at the very base of the bar i could make the back lines shorter of 20cm + or -. Anybody tried or can comment about potencial kite behaviour doing that? At the beginning i thinked it could Be too much but then i thinked if there Is, Is done to let do some tries. Just looking for more direct, not for more power

I'm no expert but I would say the pay-off is the kite is more likely to backstall. But go for it, it's the sort of thing I do, and if it's wrong just trim your kite with the trim strap, but for the love of god don't try it in high winds

Agreed.. if you shorten the back lines you will induce stall. The XR5's are good at a lot of things, but quick turning ain't one of them.

20cm is a massive change in line length, you might want to try around 5cm shorter max, at least to start with. If there's no change try another 3'cm shorter

Shorter rear lines will increase the turn speed, and possible bar pressure. Can also reduce bar throw so be careful doing this in stronger winds.

This is a very critical adjustment and important to get right on any kite, hence north now have click bar.

That generally for line trimming adjustments
you can shorten in small increments approx 30/40 mm
this will give you a more direct feel a bit better lower end and due to lesser lag in the backlines a slicghtly quicker initiation in steering, but in lesser winds a chance of backstall, in light wind that increases, but you've got the knots so just re set to conditions,
Plenty of kiters don't use the
line / pigtail setting on their kites, it really opens you up to different conditions and make more use of your kite

Have you tried a bigger bar? 60cm bar should speed up the turning a bit (at the expense of a bit of power in the turn but I think the XR5 is super powerful in the turns anyway so....)

It's a powerful kite with a fair degree of aspect designed for jumping big, old school style ... it's meant to be slow ffs. So when you go huge and god forbid actually do something up there, you don't have to worry about the kite or the throw.

Time you changed kites mate.

Thabks everybody. Today i got the chances to try with 12-13 Knox in the sand, and i confirm It tends to backstall. Had to depower It in order to avoid.

For those who're interested, here the official core reply about my question

I think you mean the lines at 1:30, right?

Those are used only for trimming the bar /making sure that all lines have the same length, as shown in the video. These lines are not meant to be used for kite trimming. If you were to take these lines out, the kite would not perform well anymore.??I would suggest moving the attachment for the steering lines on the kite on the fastest turning speed. The CIT points, I personally leave them on the standard setting all the time, but you might try moving the further to the tips for lighter bar pressure. Then again, you have tried those already.
