Hi,
I'm looking for a all round Twin tip, which also work fine in waves. I had the RRD Venom 1 and liked it because of the Tip Tail and the smooth ride. However it required a bit too much pull from the kite and upwind was not that good either.

I read about some things about the RRD Venom 2 - should be planning earlier (right?) - but I also heard, that the tips can break off - ???

The Cabrinha Chopstick looks nice, but seems to be more a beginner board - Would it still make sense?

Airrush - The x-over sounds good, at least what the company themselves state. But the Tip tail is not really there - does ist still work that nice?
Or maybe an older Protoy would work?

Any recommendations anyone? Has anyone ridden or even compared these boards regarding these aspects?

Rider: 88kg , Level - intermediate starting to be a little bit advanced ;-)
Style: Freeriding, like high jumps, like riding in waves and open ocean, but also riding on lakes
I have a low wind board as well.

Tried the CB Wave a while back - great board but I was after a more centred TT and it was ( a tad) too mutant for me.
If mutant is what you want - really should check ot this board.
Tracks nicely, holds in on waves. Rawks upwind - speshly on 'reverse' side.

I would have preferred an option to put smaller 60mm thruster fins in (to help with reverse riding) or similar and the thruster fins on the Wave are custom fittings - so no chance of trying out smaller options or other brand fins.

Pity, I was very tempted to buy the Wave.


Also tried out the North X-ride 136.
More tradional twin tip and to my liking. Was ordinary conditions and light winds when I rode it. I was surprised at how early it got going and planing. Good sign for a wave board.
TT fins had a good 'locked in' feeling.
Comfy and good boosting etc as a bonus. Pity i didn't really get any decent wind/waves on that sesh and no chance to ride it since. Could be a great board.

Sooo.. I'm still looking for my next board.. and more importantly the next windy/wavy day!!

went through a similar dilemma a year or so ago tried a few x over / mutants ended up getting an ocean rodeo mako king thinking i would use it in the waves [mush] and as a light wind board but now my other twin tips never leave home. Enough rocker for the chop, bouancy for lighter conditions and just easy to throw about. if you can get a demo i highly recommend it.

yes holds an edge really well, if your into big air i'd look at a shorter model than the king though, another guy down this way rides the 140 [exactly the same shape] and loves it in the surf still

I demoed an Airush Xover a couple of years ago and was unimpressed.

Losing skin off 3 toes half way through my 4 km downwinder didn't help! Seriously hard to understand how pads could be sooo badly designed!?

Board was ok-ish (despite glossy brochure spruking its wares it felt like an ordinary TT) but unless they have radically improved the board (and straps!) in last 2 years i couldn't put it in the same class as North's offering or CB Wave - provided big air isn't your primary thing.
I didn't get the feeling of 'glide' with the Airush that I got with the North. It was also a bit bouncy and 'square' thru the chop if that makes sense..

Just my 2c tho and as I said it was the model from 2yrs back.. Happy to be corrected.

I have the SRF 148.

Running 40mm fins one end and 3 small (70mm) fins other end.

Stance skewed one position to surf fins.

90kg - Intermediate rider of around 8 years.

I am really liking the board after about 12-15 hours on it so far. Able to do a lot more than I could on any twin tip, very smooth ride on the old knees, and get up a planes well but doesn't feel like a big board. I don't really notice the offset stance I am running too much at all and thinking of trying one more position back.Also find the 3 fins too much and may ditch the middle one. Also tried it on 4 x 50mm normal fins for a while and it was just like a nice smooth twin tip. Doesn't feel big at all and also doesn't get going any earlier than my other board. It is definitely not a light wind board imo - just a really nice wave twin tip. The 140 would only be good for sub 75kg riders I reckon.

Pads and straps seem good so far. Board finish had a few bubbles and blemishes if you looked close enough but I guess you get that now that they punch them out of china or wherever now instead of NZ.

Overall very happy and definitely a keeper. I also ride a custom CB tempo 136x42 with 40mm fins all round as a second board.

Was interested in a CB wave but there were none around to try when I was looking and I liked the look of the design of the SRF more for what I want in a board.

Tried out the SRF 140 yesterday arvo.

Unfortunately the winds were light-ish 15-18 kts and was using my slo-mo 12m. I'm 85kgs.

Overall the board felt pretty good. Boosting was decent but felt really nice on the waves.

Cruising was good and the board got going early enough. The SRF maaay have been a bit rougher through the chop than i was expecting. Only had a handful of powered right up moments to compare so hard to be sure and wish I'd had more wind. Also I am pretty rusty at the mo with very few sesh's lately (ha ha - been saying that all season this year! ).

BTW, I rode it like a traditional TT with only the 4 smaller (60mm?) fins in, leaving out the centre at both ends. Broke loose a few times so it probably does need the centre fin to really dig in. There is a pronounced V in the tail section and I could feel this 'lifting up' when breaking free. I would probably stick with 4 fins tho.

Overall I liked the the SRF 140 and it felt pretty good. Only first impressions but i'd give the choccies to the North X-ride 136 at this stage. Tried them in similar conditions but both in less than ideal winds, so can't be 100% sure yet.
