I have been kiting for 3 seasons now with a twin tip board and am keen to get into wave riding with a directional/surf board. Do any of you have any suggestion which might be the most user friendly boards out there for this? I would like to hear your opinions!

if your already a keen surfer, get your favourite board and have straps put on it, it works great. i would recommend a more fishy type of board to a more pointy shortboard.

Jon,
Any surfboard between 5'10 - 6'4 will do the job to help you learn riding without straps to start with. If you are wanting to get into it a specialized board will work the best. There are plenty on the market and all work well. If you want to ride strapped & powered up go for something on the small end (5'-5'6) If you want the option of riding with or without straps go for a bigger board (5'8-6'2)
HERE'S THE PIMP! Stonker are making epoxy surfboards that have inserts so can be ridden with or without straps. They are customs so you can choose size, tail shape etc. We will be offering a couple of set sizes or the custom service will be available. For really powered wave riding we have a 150cm & 160cm Directional that also is available in any tail shape required. These are surfboard shape but twin tip style construction so have thin rails that will hold heaps of power and don't have the volume of a surfboard.

Note: This is not pimping!!!
I have a Stonker 160 directional as described above.
Unreal in the surf and pretty cool on flat water if you like going toeside!
