A couple of months ago i was fortunate enough to try the Wind Wing WW batwing 12m. I thought pretty highly of this kite but WW decided to do a little more R & D on the kite and have made quite a few changes.
Here is my original review (red). The updated model is reviewed in Blue txt. Many characteristics are similar but some are improved. Once again this kite is loaned to me so EVERYONE CAN DEMO IT so PM me or call me 0421 505 952. I am Sydney based but travel around a bit.
Kite : Wind Wing 12 Batwing
Location : Btany Bay and Cronulla
Water Conditions : Chop and waves
Wind speed : 11-25
Board : best 131 drive, 125 sos waveskate and 6'3 surfboard strapless
Rider Weight : 77kg

The look:
awesome its a mixture of black white and clear material. The clear material is similar to a windsurfer sail however it can be folded and bent in different directions. It has a "V" cut out of the back just behind the middle strut.

The feel: This kite seems very smooth. there are quite a number of different settings you can try on this kite and i found that you can customise the feel quite a bit. at one stage i had heaps of bar pressure but with different settings i was able to eliminate alot of the bar pressure.
It has a huge wind range so can handle gusty conditions well. Another attribute that seems to help with control in gusty conditions is the notch in the back. It seems to allow the kites trailing edge to flap a litlle when a gust hits. You can lean back and stop the flapping and ride the gust out like on a C kite, or let it flap without having to make any adjustments and it will be back to normall (non flapping) when the gust is over.
The kite always felt stable in the air and I was able to self launch in as little as 6knots.

Turning:This kite turns quite fast for a 12m. i rode it on a 45cm bar and had no probs on a 50cm bar (recomended) it would turn faster then most kites.

The Ride:
This kite likes to jump and go fast. The hang time is incredible. I was blown away with the hang time of bows when they first came out but i think this would be better then most bow / hybrid kites.
This kite like to go fast! I think this would be a really good kite for anyone wanting to ride in kitercross races.

The Power:
this kite had me going in as light as 11-12 knots on the best 131 drive board. It aslo felt fine in 22 knots. Unfortunatley i didn't get to try it in anything stronger. It is important to change the positions of the pig tails depending on the strength of the wind. Even in light wind this kite still loved to jump.

The Bar:
The bar that Wind wing have is caled the cruise controll bar it is a great addition to this kite and many other bow kites. What makes it so special is it stays where you let go. this is great after doing spins and unspinning the bar without loosing all your power. It also means that you don't get tennis elbow if you are flying in lihjt winds.

Last words:
This kite is a great freestyle kite. It jumps super high and has you moving through the water really fast. Unhooked isn't to bad either, provided you pull it in a little. This kite could be an absolute winner for speed kiting as well as hang time.

Enjoy and

Kite : Wind Wing 12 Batwing (updated)
Location : Btany Bay, Cronulla and wellington point.
Water Conditions : Chop, waves and smooth water
Wind speed : 11-29knts
Board : best 131 drive
Rider Weight : 77kg
The sessions I have had have all been in quite gusty conditions and i have felt the kite handled this well.

The updated version of the kite has a much bigger cutout. Instead of a little V cut out of the trailing edge there is a large eliptical cutout. With the the old V there was some flapping of the trailing edge happening however with the new version this flapping has been eliminated. The reason for this cutout is it allows the kite to have the power and relanch ability of a mid aspect kite with the jumping and hangtime of a high aspect kite. It also allows the kite to turn better for its size, by allowing it to twist easier.

They have reduced the number of batterns on the leading and trailing edge. Which reduce the weight.
The kite seems to have even better hang time and perhaps a touch more power then the older version.
I haven't had a chance to test the bottem end power of this kite but it seems very powerful for a 12m.

The build of the kite seems excellent! The materials they use seem far stronger then traditional materials and also much stiffer.
