These look good, any other suggestions for boots?

I do not know anything about boots. any information would be appreciated.

Do any wakeboard boots work?
pros/cons open to closed toe?

Up until last week I would fully recommend Ronix ones however mine after less than 6 months are already falling apart I don't ride more than 3/4 times a month so they are pretty expensive per ride so far!!!!!!

I heard that the initial Hyperlite system bindings had reliability issues but they're getting better and a couple of my mates who use them for cable reckon they are the best they have ever used.

Closed toe are more comfortable and work better especially when riding on a heel side edge like in kiting. Close toe stop you from lifting your toes when edging hard. One of the main advantages I like about closed toe boots is you don't get cold feet riding in winter ( in Vic that's a real bonus).
Open toe is old tech, all top end boots are closed toe. I'm pretty sure the wakeboard companies know what they are doing.

P.S. I ride Ronix Ones.

i ride the ronix district boots (open toe) they are really well built and comfortable and they are also good if ya feet are still growing because they alow for 4 different sizes but sill hold well on your foot if you have the smallest size

Do yourself a favour and try the Ronix Franks. Half the price of the Ronix Ones but the quality is just as good. As soon as I put them on I knew I has found the boots for me. So much more comfy then straps and such a secure locked in feeling. I really don't think I will ever go back.

Or buy a season behind and they're half price. Had franks, ones are better IMO.

At what level do boots start to make a noticable difference (whether someone prefers them or not). I am trying everything at the moment and also want to give boots a go, but want to wait until they will actually count for something :)

if u can ride up wind well then really ur ready ride boots (some people may have a different view on it but that's just me). I started riding boots because I broke my ankle (doing back rolls in merky water that wasn't as deep as I thought it was). And so I wanted more support for my ankle so that it wouldn't happen again (and yes I know it will be the knees next. But at least my income protection will cover them). But really I was thinking about giving them ago even before that because straps just never felt comfy or natural to me. I found as I was starting to get into unhooked tricks my feet would slip out of straps even when they were so tight that I could hardly get my feet into them.

So I say just give them ago mate. U don't know what your missing out on.

if you can't land a trick in straps but you can in boots, they make a difference

a good point to make is that, boots are great for doing freestyle tricks because you've got a really direct connection to the board, your feet won't come out (unless you try REALLY hard to catch a solid edge) and you'll find you can land with a lot more power and speed.

Having said that, crashes hurt more and put a whole lot more stress on your body, you're locked in to that one position where as foot straps you can move around a little while riding.

but straps have their place. learning a new trick can be good to start with in straps because you won't catch repetitive heel edges and end up concussed, if you're kiting in heaps of chop or waves and just having a play around, not too worried about being 'legit', than the straps are heaps better as they allow you some freedom of movement in your feet.

Mix it up, try them out, beg borrow or steal them from a mate and see what you think

Thanks for the advice. At this point in my kitesurfing I just want to try as many different styles and equipment as I can. I have been trying a few tricks and had a problem with feet coming out of the straps no matter how tight I have them, sometimes only one foot comes out and it's very painful! I am sure though that it's a technique problem and not an equipment problem so I will just keep practicing. But as soon as the opportunity arises to try out some boots, I'll jump at it.

ronix ones here absolutely love them for the jellyfish and cable park.

very difficult to get into. I find I get into them in halfway up the boot water lie down on my back and carefully edge my way out without delaminating my new board (which I have now done and im pissed off about it as it cost me 850$) so yeah my recomendation is to try not use them in the ocean unless theres a sandbar you can walk down put them on next to the water then just use kite to jump in

hey everyone. i just bought some ronix ones after reading all the great reviews on them. Iv started doing unhooked tricks and my feet come out of the straps on 50% of tricks and its really annoying. i know its because of my technique but want to give boots a go to give me more confidence rather than thinking about keeping my feet in. I ride a cab custom 136 and from all that iv read the board may be to small? does anyone have experience in riding boots on a smaller board would i defiantly need to get a larger board to ride boots comfortably? im 85kg
cheers

^^^ Sounds like you have the wrong size, maybe try tying them up . Seriously though I've only come out of mine once or twice even on heelside trips!

I think he meant that his feet were coming out of regular straps, so he bought boots?

I was looking at boots for the same reason. Starting to play around with raileys other things, and coming out of straps fairly often.

yeah sorry i meant feet come out of straps so i bought boots. Just wondering what others opinions are on board size and what differences you would notice between a 136 vs 140+ board. is it really noticeable on landings etc?

I'm 90kg and I ride a 140 cab custom and Ronix franks. Use to ride a 135 stonker with straps. I was told if I go boots go the next size up because the boots give off extra drag. so I decided on the 140 over the 136. Defiantly glad I went the bigger size.

On the subject, does anyone have any cheap closed-toe boots they want to get rid of? I would like to try them out. Mens size EUR 44 or US 11.

Would my 140 x 41 Cab Tronic be fine with boots just to give it a try?

i hope you have a 14m to go with that 140 custom. They have too much rocker. You need to ride lit to get any decent pop (I'm 74kgs by the way). try a tona pop mate

It's not that bad mate. My biggest kite is a 12m 2012 switchblade.

But do give the Tona pop a go. I have heard nothing but good things about them.

I'm looking at the Tona POP for my next board, planning on sticking boots on them if I decide I like boots. The website says they ride a few sizes large. I am 85kg. What would be a good size to stick bindings on? 138cm? Or 142cm?

I'd probably lean towards the 142 at that weight mate
