what way do you set up the lines to stop the kite stalling and not to flare when at 12 o'clock when you sheet in??? eg move the front lines further up the knot thing???
cheers Jesse

General rule is all lines to be of equal length when the depower strap is fully out (i.e. full power).

I generally fly with slightly longer back lines - say 2 inches longer. This is my personal preference for less bar pressure, more wind range.

Kites should only flare when you have too much back line pressure.

no 2 kites are alike. There isn't a general rule you have to have a rough guess (what mr plow says is a good start). Then tune in the air and make adjustments on the ground. I start with the trim strap halfway and equal lines. Then I can atleast get more backline tension if needed. Once correct trim is found then adjust the line lengths so the tension is the same when the strap is fully out as it is when properly trimmed for full power.

when your kite gets old, your front lines will stretch and become longer than your back lines, you may need to shorten your front lines by tying knots in them or making a new connection point, i did this by tying a bowline a few inches from the origional line end... make sure both front lines are the same length as your back lines first, if not then just shorten them and make a new attatchment point so they are the same length
making your front lines shorter, reduces power and kite flare

Hi there kite line set up is a personal preference, as each is individual so is each rider.. most kites have adj attachment points so you can tune the kite for you.. General rule is if the kite flies to far over your head and luffs then the front lines are to short or back lines to long.. If the kite reverses then your back lines are to short or front lines to long.. figure out where your comfortable in having your arms and trim the kite so that it flies best when in this position usual just very slightly depowered. some people like to be able to flare their kite, as when you flare or stall the kite it doesn't turn or respond quickly this can be handie when getting your board on or doing transitions.. Try a few different settings even if you find one that you like as there may even be a better position..
