FIRSTLY I WOULD LIKE TO THANK EVERY ONE INVOLVED IN MAKING THIS EVENT HAPPEN MY PARTNER REALLY ENJOYED HERSELF WHICH IS A PLUS FOR ME.
THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS SHE DIDN'T GET ENOUGH FLYING TIME,I UNDERSTAND THE NUMBERS WERE LARGE AND TIME WAS SHORT SHE WOULD OF LOVED TO BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE BODY DRAGING AS WE ALL KNOW THIS IS WHAT GOT MOST OF US ADDICTED TO THIS GREAT SPORT THE POWER OF THE KITE.WILL YOU BE DOING ANYMORE CHIX CLINICS WITH SMALLER NUMBERS SO THE GIRLS CAN REALLY HAVE A GO.

Hi doolz,

Thanks for the recognition of the effort put in by everyone involved on the day

The day was truly successful.

The CHIX Clinics are a SAKSA driven initiative.
This is not the first time that a "Girls only" Kite clinic has been held.
WA, QLD & NSW have led the way.
This is the first of its type that I know of in SA.

You are correct in saying that we had "limited time" on the day.

The CHIX organising crew planned the event as an affordable "entry level " intro to kiteboarding for females.

A consideration as to the length of the day was that the time donated by our instructors was all FREE.
The primary instruction coordinators were two of our sponsors for the day, Elements and Red Baron kiteboarding schools. Teaching is usually income for them.

As with all events, you must carefully weigh up the requirements (in this case time)you are asking from your sponsors with what you can offer back in regards to promotion for them.
We were extremely fortunate to have both schools back us as they had female instructors, Inge & Laura, who formed a BIG part of the CHIX organising crew.

Regards
Fossil

hi again,

(Thought I'd bust it into smaller posts rather than construct a novel )

Other parts of the day which kept it at a LOW entry level cost were;
The food provided was FREE to participants.
Drew,The vegetarian cook, donated his time as did many others, some not even able to be there on the day to enjoy the outcome..

The CHIX organising crew volunteered many hours of planning this (new to SA) event.

The equipment on the day was loaned to us, at no cost, by SAKSA, Individual SAKSA members, and again the two kite schools.

The T-Shirt was provided FREE to participants.

The goodies, "sample & info" bags were provided, FREE to participants, by our sponsors Elements, Red Baron, Onboard, Kite Shop & Adventure Blue

The $40 entry cost primarily covered insurance requirements for the day.

3rd installment

To try and answer some of your other questions:

Yes: We will be doing another CHIX kiteboarding Clinic but it will be another "entry level" clinic similar to the day we had recently.

We estimate it will be in mid January '09 and we are trying to cater for those girls that enquired about the clinic but, for whatever reason were unable to attend.

The CHIX organising crew discussed, (before our event), what we would like to see in our CHIX attendee's progress.

We figure that we have provided the "appetiser" and now the CHIX attendee's need to get "entree" & "main course"

Some suggestions so far are;

1). Approach Elements or Red Baron & discuss the next level training they could offer to our CHIX attendee's, as they know what you have been taught already.

Training may incorporate on-water activity such as body drag & maybe board work. (remember that you have saved a swag on the cost of entry level lessons already !!).
This will give a huge "boost" to your learning curve and you get to use their equipment, while training, to get a feel of what you may need in future.

2). Buy good equipment from our Adelaide sponsors, taking advice from all of the local shops and your instructors. (mention your CHIX clinic as you talk a deal ).

2). NSWKBA used a follow up approach by organising a weekend specifically for their clinic attendees so as they could move forward as a group.

For our CHIX attendees a safe area such as Milang, with its accommodation and easy launch/land areas seems like a good suggestion.

The NSW approach was to ask “Chix” kiting partners to look after the kids, cook etc. for that weekend so as the girls could get as much water time as possible.

Improvements will be made to the "CHIX enquiries/applications" system so as the paperwork becomes easier at both ends for the next clinic.

We would like any serious suggestions as to how we could improve the entry level clinics or how to keep the CHIX progession moving forward.

Regards
Fossil

Hey all,

My girlfriend attended and said it was a great day. Obviously a lot of volunteer effort and equipment support was provided by the kite schools for which they would hope to gain some future lessons out of, and this is much appreciated.

I guess the only constructive criticism would be that perhaps the girls could have flown some proper kites after having a go on the trainer kites. I would expect that the pull and feel on the harness is quite a bit different than that felt on the trainer kites, and that this would have been great experience prior to paying for further lessons.

Cheers, Chaps.

The main goal was to educate and inform - give the girls the knowledge to head forward.

Hopefully we can run some more stuff in the near future.... I personally thought that the ladies and girls who attended had a great positive attitude and gained a lot from the day.

Keep the feedback coming- it is the best way for future days to improve..

Great to see and hear about the success of the CHIX event. It would be great to hear how many girls are going to be getting into the sport and take it up to the level of Inge, Katey and Catherine to name a few......

All the guys kiting push each other it would be great to see the girls doing the same.

Happy riding - keep safe

All reports from my partner Kate was she thought it was a great success. She loved the fact she had a chance to socialize with the other chicks. Great work teams, sorry I was absent.
