Probably should have started this thread with: 'you know its windy when' your getting dust in your eyes while kiting ON the water.

Huge dust storm going on in the background!

Spray coming off water that should be almost glass!

Totally maxed out on the 9m and then some! It was nuts

Sorry to anyone that didn't recieve the invite. We tried to put the word out. Overall 5 of us hit picnic creek near Cowell on saturday and boy did Huey put on a show for us.

Thats the most wind I've ever seen, and coming from Whyalla thats a fair statement. Just by pulling in the bar you could get some very impressive height. But timing a jump properly with one of those gusts it was crazy! biggest jumps ever

Pete and Ron will have to be the judge, but we're talking 50+ft heigh and 150+ft long jumps.

Still trying to wash that brown stuff out of my wetsuit. What a day!!

Cheers for coming guys. (and Matt, might need to get a 7m for next time)

Hopefully get some pictures up soon.

Heres some photos. No BIG airs but you can get an idea of how windy it was from the dust in the background.

When we first rocked up: nice 20-30knts

Starting to build a bit. that dust is getting closer

Now its starting to build!

Thought Danny Deck Chair would be getting some serious airtime. Kammo and I headed out to Fitzgerald Bay. Wind was nuking through the hills across the bay. As for airtime. Think I saw you guys down in Cowell while I was up there!

Cleve aerodrome (closest weather recorder) gave 42 knot gusts.

My 7.5m bandit was flapping around the sky like a demented bat, it was seriously windy.

Funniest sight were the birds trying to fly upwind, they had no hope and were all going backwards

Nearly as funny (after the event) was WalshD landing a huge jump only to find his kite lowering itself backwards into the middle of the 40 kt power zone, all ended well thankfully

It was one of the few occasions that I have seen the sea blown flat by the wind

Darn! Left Whyalla a few days earlier, just wandering what wind direction? Northerly? why drive all the way to Cowell? Looks a bit like 8mile creek. At least you got out.Definitely a crazy front.Next trip will be in the planning soon for the summer sessions. Danny deck chair thats a good one may have come across the deck chair crew at the foreshore, when Roger got up close and personnal with the foreshore light poles.

Yes a howling northerly, at picnic beach it's cross onshore. Anywhere close to Whyalla is all dead offshore with a northerly.
Much more water than 8mile.

PS, dont forget to tell Wayne to give up the pole dancing and get a kite already

Pics look great, pity nobody got any video when its was really going off!!
Hopefully next time I won't be able to use the excuse "can't get my ear wet beacuse I just had my skin cancers cut off"
Bring on the next winter northerly.

We first got on the water at about 11am. within an hour the gusts were too much to hold ground so we sanded down the kites, fired up the bbq behind the dunes and an hour later the gusts had died down enough to kite again.
