The instructors from Red Baron Kiteboarding School are offering a free self rescue clinic this coming weekend. It’ll be a great opportunity to brush up on your SR skills and for any of you that missed out in the early stages to acquire these essential techniques to keep yourself safe. We’ll be meeting at the Red Baron trailer. Come and say g’day and if you arrive late look out for us on the beach. We’ll also have some demo 2010 kites and boards from our good mates at Onboard for you to try

When: Saturday 6th Feb 2010 / 10:30am

Where: Largs Bay - In the carpark north of Largs Bay Sailing Club

What: Teaching of Self rescue techniques plus kite and board demo

Hope to see lots of you there. Cheers – The Red Baron Team

Hi guys,

I am looking to get some lessons soon but I am having some current money issues. I was wondering if the self rescue clinic would be helpful before I start my first lesson, or is it important to have a few lessons under my belt first?

Cheers

Hi S of F,

Self Rescue is part of the Lesson 1 syllabus and for sure will be helpful to know now but there's lots more you need to know prior to getting out safely on your own. My recommendation is to do at least 2 lessons to leave yourself in a place to confidently practice without compromising your or other people's safety. Drop me a pm with your mobile number and we'll discuss a possible lesson discount for you.

Can't agree enough.
Great idea Guy. Anyone wanting to develop in kiting needs to know how to get themselves out of trouble. Nice one.

Could I also add a few points to keep everyone safe on the beach

dont set up and launch your kite within 50m of other beach users especially upwind.

dont set up too large a kite for the wind conditions and your experience.

dont kite within 50m of any swimmers in the water

if you cant do this please find a deserted beach along way away from everyone.

Good points Andy. We'll also be going thru the road rules, just to remind everyone who gives way to whom on the water.
