ive got tomorrow off and am getting up early to go south. I want to find some flat water for some freestyle practise, im thinking goolwa lake but for starters i have no idea where to go or even where goolwa lake is, i assume its on the southern side of hindmarsh island.
Will goolwa lake be any good? And if not where else could i go for some flat water?
Is anyone heading down south?

Cheers,
Dave.

Milang would be a good choice.

Goolwa will be to gusty. not sure if there really is enough room for kiting.

Or Goolwa river mouth

Just slightly north east of Milang (about 2kms) is the mouth of the Bremer river which is cross shore for a SW. There are a few tracks through the grass but heaps of snakes...! Not sure how much water will be there as the shallow depth is very wind affected.
Sugars is generally fine (Hindmarsh Island side of Murray mouth) in SW and W. Just watch out for the dredging area.
Goolwa lake is gusty and now has water but better from the Hindmarsh Island side.

I've been meaning to try the Currency Creek and Finnis River mouths since the water came back (just West of Clayton). They'll work in a SW or W but not sure how deep it is yet...
Good luck either way.

No dramas. Pretty simple as it's well signed. Once you are over the bridge on Hindmarsh Island, follow the main road through the middle of the island until you get to the sign for the Murray mouth.
Turn right onto Semaschko Rd and then left on Bong a long Rd, then right on Murray Mouth Rd. When you get to some shacks on the foreshore (they face south towards the mouth), you've hit Sugars.
If you find yourself on dirt roads, you're going the wrong way. If you find yourself at shacks facing east, you're at Mundoo which means you've turned off to early...

I was down on Hindmarsh Island on the weekend at a mate's place which is southwest from Clayton. I could not believe how high the water is, I would say at normal pool level. Alot of the reeds and that horrible brown water weed that was taking over the lower lakes has completely disappeared! The water clarity and quality is the best that is has been for years and the many launching areas around Currency Creek are now better than ever. I'm still not convinced that the weir was a good idea, but it has definitely bought water sports back to Goolwa. I often wonder why Goolwa regatta club does not install a web cam as I reckon this would do wonders for water sport tourists who still reckon there is no water.
