Hi all great site you all have here.
I would like to introduce myself I am Mark.
Some of you may have seen me watching you surf down the chicken shop (military road) or just driving my black hilux around there.
I am totally new to this sport but am keen.
My friend got me interested and has given me 1 lesson so far which has left me wanting more.
I have a had a search around on here and am not new to forums at all and I like what I see. I feel I can really add to this community in some way.
If there is 1 tip you all can give me to help get me started let me know. My mate has taken off overseas until christmas so I'm on my own and keen to learn more..just after getting me hooked! damn him.

I know the 1st tip.. GET SOME LESSONS. HA.
Im onto it.
What do you guys think of this KIT to get me out there? I am looking at Purchasing of a mate.

****new Gaastra G-Drive 156 twin tip board (NEVER USED),

****9.5m Airush ATV Kite (EXCELLENT CONDITION, no tears, no wear marks, no patches),

****30 foot kite lines and medium length bar with safety leesh

****Prolimit waist harness (MEDIUM, EXCELLENT CONDITION, only used a couple of times),

****Board Bag,

****Gaastra pump

**** Board Leash -

Thanks for your time people

Thanks for that mate.
If you come across any gear to get me started let me know I'm keen.
I dont mind paying for quality as It is normally the cheapest way in the long run. Buy it once

Wait till you have had your lessons and get your instructor to recommend what is right for you.

Your weight, how you want to ride and what conditions you intend riding in will affect what gear is right for you.

PLEASE do not use a board leash- bad news.

If you want to buy now ... a bow or sle kite from the 07 or 08 seasons should do you nicely a 10 or 12m depending on your weight, as far as a board anything around the 132 to 140 cm long and 38 to 41 cm wide.

Harnesses are something that needs to fit well and be comfortable, if your mates fits no worries but if not spend the extra and buy one that does.

Cheers

Cheers Geoff,
Lessons starting next week. Waiting to hear back from them. Am trying to fast track things while im home on holidays.
I will seek the instructors guidance and go from there.
Im 87 kg and 187cm. fairly fit. I will grab a harness new I think.
Which shops do you guys frequent and recommend in Adelaide for your gear?

The closest one for you would be Kiteshop at the chicken shop, but there are also Glascraft, Adventure Blue and Onboard. Try a couple on and see what fits best.. all the shops sell different harnesses and it really is personal preference.

Geoff has to purchase his harnesses at the 'Big Blokes Harness House'.

You should be right going to a normal surf shop though!!

Look foward to seeing you in the Kiteshop (look out for the banners, if there out were open) we have a range of kites from new to secondhand and all the rest of the gear, also do lessons. And you are more than welcome to join our downwinders, one of the easist ways to improve as you dont worry about losing ground downwind so you can enjoy and play with the board and kite, getting to feel what works. Got a good bunch of guys and gals who kite and will give more advice than you know what to do with.

Hey mate I came in Yesterday and spoke to you for a bit. You were very helpful (if it was you I spoke to?)
I would be keen to join your downwinders when I get my gear and set up. Sounds like fun.
Thanks for your input mate
