I went down to henley beach this afternoon to watch you guys flying around gracefully on the water, and was thinking is it really as easy as you guys make it look? Im looking into getting lessons and wonder how long it will take me not to get a faceful of water?!

My biggest concern is ill zoom out to sea and not get back to shore, im sure once I have been shown how to control the kite it will be less scary, but even so how long does it normally take to pick up?

Take lessons..... End of topic. Lol. Imagine being tied behind a V8 with a brick on the accelerator! That's kiting. Pop into Onboard and get Guys number.

Tino,...."pugtastic" Julie has all of the contacts for the schools from a previous thread.

Julie.... As Tino says "DO THE LESSONS FIRST"

safety instruction is a major part of your first lesson, including self rescue!

Listen, ask, watch carefully, find a "kite buddy", join your local association (SAKSA), ask the local crew at the beach, talk to the kite shops (Onboard & the Kite shop).

I'm sure there are people that were able to ride within days of first instruction.
Fom what I have heard discussed, (and experienced) it is proportional to spending time on the water practising & refining what you have been taught/shown.

There are some people that drag around for years, crashing & splashing till they can ride........I know someone like that

The learning will never cease, there is always something else to challenge you.
Welcome to the "alternate addiction".

Julie,

Not sure how graceful it was as the winds were very marginal and we were all struggling to stay up wind. Good to get wet tho and the water is nice and warm at the moment.

Was that you standing up by your car watching for a while? U should have come down on the beach and had a chat to get to know some of the guys.

As Fossil said tho everyone is different and pick it up at their own pace. But im sure with a lesson or 2 and once you get to know a few of the guys on the beach who can help you out with a few pointers you should pick it up in no time.

Not expecting to pick it up and be brilliant from my first lesson, even though I am brilliant!!!

I sat on the beach for about an hour around 5pm last night just watching, didnt really feel like pestering you all while you looked so busy!

The plan is to learn as much as possible while im in Australia, and when I go home to carry on with my boyfriend, he has been doing it for a while but thought it better to learn of a fabulous instructor instead of pickin up peoples bad habbits.

I have chosen my instuctor so just need to work out my roster so I can come play!
