Hi,

I'm staying in Adelaide for a few weeks and hoping to get in some kitesurfing on the weekends. I've had a few lessons and got my BKSA/IKO level 2 certification but still very much a beginner! I've read that Largs Bay is a good place for beginners but also that you have to be a SAKSA member to kitesurf there. Will I be able to kitesurf there? I'm a member of the BKSA and so have insurance through them.

Also after any tips on other good locations for a beginner and where I can find out the best locations for weather/wind conditions?

Look forward to meeting some of you on the beach soon,

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon,

SAKSA website has a reasonable description of kiting locations in and around Adelaide.
For some of them you do not need a permit eg. "Chicken Shop" is another popular one and not too bad for beginners. Here is a link:

http://www.saksa.com.au/?page_id=4

and there is also a map:

www.saksa.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/SAKSA_Metro_Beaches_Map.pdf

Also most spots outside of Adelaide don't require permits, but you will be better off kiting where there are some other kiters, so you can get help launching/landing etc.

As to your question re Largs Bay permit you may need to contact Port Adelaide Enfield Council as they are the ones that hand out the fines, I'm not sure what the answer is.

Cheers, I'll have a drive round this afternoon to get an idea of the different locations. I rang the council about Largs bay but unfortunately there wasn't anyone there who could answer the question so they're going to ring me back next week.
