Where are the best spots to kite around the Victor Harbour area with some smooth water? Looks like some reasonable wind on Friday arvo and I'm knocking off work early and might do a drive. Has anyone kited the beach right in Victor?..seems the swell doesn't get in there too much because of granite island. I checked out the Murry mouth once but there were signs everywhere about exclusion zones from the dredging. Anyone shed some light on this?,

Thanks,

There are a few good spots to go around Victor. The first would be at Goolwa Beach, right where you drive down onto it. You can kite straight out the front or drive down on the beach as well and head towards the mouth but make sure you keep out of anyones way if you are going off in front of the car park. In 25knots it is fantastic cause you have flat water in close and plenty of surf and swell out the back. Be prepared for a long swim in though if you go out the back!!!

Middleton can be ok, maybe a bit dodgy at time for some reason but much the same as Goolwa.

At Victor, you can kite at Kent Reserve, where the little river at Victor runs out into the sea. Great spot with good flat water . Be a bit careful of any boats moored in the bay though!! Works best of a southerly or south easterly. The only proble here is that the beach is small so it would be handy to have some help you launch if the tide is high.

As for the mouth, I have kited down there before but had to walk a fair way to keep out of the exclusion zones. Not worth the bang and effort for your buck as far as I am concerned. Best of sticking with Goolwa!

Hope this helps. Jordy..

Hi Pinto

i've kited Bashams as well went out from the Chicken run (small wave in the cnr on big swells that the boogers surf). In the middle there are a couple of reefs that get waves, but u do have to be somewhat wary because there are bits of rock every where and at low tide they're often poking out
cheers

and frenchies out the back would be a gd wave to kite on the right day

Yeah had a look at launching from Chicken run but it was a bit sheltered in there and not enough wind.. Jeez Frenchies sucks out on to about a foot of barnacle encrusted rock... Might have to get the chops up before i tackle that! Anyone kited horseshoe reef as Christies? I've surfed it plenty of times but haven't been out there on a kite yet... Its a bit too far out for my skill level just yet but I've got my eye on it. (its my local)

For heaps of photos on the local area from the locals:

For local rules:

www.southcentralkiteboarders.com/lesson2.html

The important thing with Kent Reserve is to keep to the South of the beach. and don't fly when it is marginal as you will end up at the north end of the beach in the hollow wind and drop your kite in the family area. This will inevitably lead to us loosing this pristine spot.

If you do end up in the family area north of the beach go futher north and avoid them. If is is southerly or SSW this area is almost zero wind on some days with added bonus of swimmers and kids, 'nuf said.

enjoy the photos and talk to us when you are there.

Thanks for the tips Daz... I like the site. I'll look forward to meeting you guys. Mostly I'm kiting at Moana south at the moment as its near where I live and there is plenty of space. I get down to Victor regularly as thats where gods waiting room is and my mum and dad live there.
